What temperature do you set your fridge at?

  • 0°F - I like using it for Meats, Ice Cream and other Frozen Foods!

The front, left, and back panels (in descending order perhaps) are very hollow sounding everywhere but the edges at the bottom and sides. The bottom and right side panels are quite solid.

These same areas get quite cool/cold to the touch when the fridge is running, also in contrast to bottom, edges, and right side.

I'm checking on the use of a thermal camera.

Are the panels not easily removable? If it is like the other VL series those panels are very thin and its solid insulation behind it the metal walls. I did not feel a need to remove the walls when i opened mine to peek inside, but i imagine it would not be hard to check what's behind them. Keep us posted!

The outer walls of the fridge are a complete spot-welded unit into which the interior, cold plate, and compressor are installed. The insulation is apparently poly spray foam applied at the time of assembly.
 
Ok so i finished with the 20 degree test for AC power, and this one makes a lot more sense than what happened with the freezing test for AC.

Power bank is a JAckery 160(167 wHs), and tests begin with Jackery fully charged and ends when Jackery is fulled drained.

Results for sustained power consumption, for 20 degree temperature setting:

DC - 8 hours 35 mins
AC - 8 hours 3 mins

Recap for 0 degree setting tests:
DC - 7 hours 35 mins
AC - 4 hours 17 minutes (Willl be retesting).

Next is power consumption test for 41 degrees (fridge does not go to 40, only 39 or 41).

Is this time using a specific power bank? Curious of the capacity for these times.

A Jackery 160 has 167Wh of power. Running the cooler at 20degrees over 80 hours puts the hourly wattage use around 20 watts/hour. Thats pretty damn good to be honest. I was expecting closer to 50watts at refridgeration temps..

Yeah i was surprised at first as well when i figured it out for the VL. When you look up power consumption for these things, it just says "55W", and that only is accurate when the compressor is cycled on and in max mode. What's amazing is that it can idle at 0-1 watts on the TR on DC power, when compressor is off.
 
I’m going to start a separate thread for IceCo pictures as a mini project I am doing to try and help ICECO with their Social media marketing. If you guys could be so kind as to share a photo of your ICECO setup or any related content, like you enjoying ice cream in the middle of nowhere, then please share it with us! Also any pictures of it in your LC/LX may help others figure out which one is the right fit for them.

Next time you and the boys get together, see if you can get me a group photo of the vehicles with Iceco fridges (with hatch open so we can see!). I’m relying on you west coast members to get some good shots of your fridges out in the wild!

Also pictures of it in your shop if using it as a shop fridge would be nice. I know some members are using it in their homes as well (living room/bedroom fridge). Just pile whatever you have into the pictures thread once it’s up and thanks again everyone!

Anyways, Jackery is almost done recharging and rain is gone, so the tests for 41 degrees will begin within the next 1-2 hours. The rain stopped about 30 seconds after I moved everything under awning lol...

The 41 Degrees DC test is looking like it's going to take a while; It will use less than 15% of the Jackery 160 in the first 3 hours. We are at 2h 50mins in, and Jackery is at 87% with compressor having recently cycled off.

Now i am more curious as to how long the VL will last under DC power. I didn't even think about AC vs DC last time i tested it. I am also curious as to what size solar panel i need to run this thing indefinitely, in combination with the Jackery 160 and an area with average amount of sunlight. Even a 60W panel pulling in 30W for 8 hours is 240wHs, which may actually have a chance at running this thing for good. Given, i would invest in an insulating bag and run the fridge filled so it's easiest to sustain (and more realistic).

Here is the 3-hour mark, still at 87% left on Jackery (sorry the temp display is hard to read on camera, and some numbers are more visible than others):



All the tests this week will be up for a month, and anything i clip/highlight (anyone can clip/highlight) will remain for good. I clip the end of each long test to keep results around for reference so you can just see results without having to watch these long streams, but all of it is there in case anyone wants to see/review any particular part.

The Jackery 160 still has over 70% left and its been over 7 hours! What the heck.

I just filled the generator back up and i'm going to bed. Everything should be good to run all night so hopefully i don't wake up to a black screen!
 
Just woke up and Jackery 160 still has over 40% left after 15.5 hours at 41 degrees setting on the TR60 (DC Power)... that's a crazy amount longer than all the other tests... longest being 8.5 hours at 20 degrees setting on DC power. The current fridge temp is 35 (setting is 41); The temp display flashes back and forth and i took the screenshot at the wrong time so the 3 is not visible.

I had to reboot the laptop because mouse wasn't working, which lead to the stopwatch resetting. So to get the real time you just add 15.5 hours from before reset to the current time on stopwatch.

Any of those viewers mudders? And i noticed it doesn't matter how many people watch, my viewer count will say 1 lol. I don't care about view count but i thought it was odd that even when i watch it on 2 accounts of mine, it will still say 1.

I messed around for a bit and eventually decided to trust the experts (after an incident with cooking partially frozen eggs, and a few with partially frozen milk). My VL is at 41 most of the time now.

This is from the sticker on my VL lid. Sorry JP folks, it doesn’t appear you’re cool enough for this sticker on your lid.

Let's be honest, how many of you are going to be setting it at 55?:rofl:

My JP50 has the same sticker on the lid. I think I'll start by setting mine at 40 and go from there
I stand corrected, you guys are cool enough after all!

I made a poll to hopefully get some insight as to what most mudders use. If there is a poll selection i should add to the list of choices, then just let me know and i will add it!

Standard variation is 4 degrees. So if you set it at 36, the range would be 32 to 40 degrees. I would recommend setting it around 38 and probably not above 40.
