I want to apologize because i may have spoken out of turn on the NC board. I was feeling a little upset when i started reading some of the post about the pumpkin pig run. I know it's hard to take emotion out of text written on an internet board, but i was not feeling the love.

Again, my feelings on cullowhee and the UC events is that cullowhee has been scouted out, mapped and organized by UC members for UC members. No UC does not own the property. :doh:

So, with that said anyone is welcome to go to cullowhee, scout out the trails, map them, figure out routs and drive times, and organize a trail ride any time they want. It is open game lands, open to the public. So if you can find it, go for it.

But, if you want to come on the UC pumpkin pig ride, you need to either own a pig or be a UC member, PERIOD. Society seems to be more and more accommodating to everyone so everything is fare and no one's feelings get hurt.........not this time. It is what it is.

:cheers::cheers:

off the soap box. :beer:

I believe there is a TON of stuff yet to be explored up there still.

Leaving on Sunday I noticed more than a few dozen trail spurs that climbed the ridge and were traveled enough to allow passage.

I'd like to keep mapping that area as I have time.

As Alex mentioned, it is all Game Lands and National Forest Land and therefore open to the public. It is a large area, much larger than we've ridden.

MUCH more to explore!! :bounce:

Oh, one more thing. For the record those locals were wrong about bear season. It might have been harvest season and that's just the line they gave you. :D

After stating bear was not in season I checked just to be sure. It doesn't begin until mid-Oct. As I mentioned, in those parts anyone out hunting legally would only be chasing Doves at this point in the season as most game seasons are still closed...

It was opening weekend for bear hunting training. That's why there were stray Plotts and Blueticks and Walkers all over the hills.
An old-timer we ran into Sunday told us. Then he walked off dragging the dogs that were trying to get adopted by us, said he'd stake them out and call the owners named on the tags.

Cool, I didn't catch that part. I don't about the regs involved in training, didn't even know there were any. I guess it is a good excuse to get to scout the current year's habitat while working the dogs.

Just glad my dogs were effectively contained when those hounds came barreling through camp before dawn.

We didn't hear it until after you left. I'm guessing that's why all the gates were open everywhere. It would be a good idea to know that date.

Fer shur, that would have been a commotion. Two Rotts vs a pack of Bear Hounds? Michael Vick wouldn't know where to bet that one. Or would he?
