I got a quote for $1,200 for full install. Anyone have experience with this device?
No. If you want to have a low key way to monitor your car location, landairsea systems has a couple GPS based options. If you want location data in more of a static role, 12V solutions subscription remote start service has this in addition to its remote start capabilities.

I hope immobilizers have come a long way, but can say most that I've seen in years past have not had the best of track records long term.

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit worried about these new car theft techniques, I watched a video online and they take cars in 1 minute. I’m thinking of just getting an OBD port lock and maybe one of those old fashioned steering wheel locks if I don’t go through with the immobilizer. I don’t love the idea of having an electronic device whose purpose is to shut my car’s engine off long term.

Not to worry you even more, but supposedly they don’t need access to the OBD port anymore if they can see the VIN tag.

Excellent link, and great advice, thank you.

solid theory. execution/reliability could be an issue or it might work like a champ. i cant find a manual or drawings of the install to see if this is a hardware install or reprogramming an existing CAN device to act as the lockout system? i avoid hacking on OEM harnesses unless you have good wire, connectors, pins, and real crimpers otherwise it inevitably leads to issues later. if this is just a straight logic mod in CAN it should be straightforward'ish unless you get honky code and get stuck in some spaghetti code logic loop of doom.

if anyone buys this you should be able to see what it does with a CAN dongle on each side of the gateway and wireshark it.
