It seems that many on this forum have dedicated camping trailers and either RTT or ground tent. I cant have a RTT and am getting old enough that I do not like sleeping on the ground. I like the idea of heated mattress and a/c. Just wanting some opinions on camping with a pop-up.

Check this forum out. I am considering a pop up myself for the very same reason. That ground gets harder every year...

The folks on the forum are great. Lots of good information on purchasing the right pop up and some great threads to read.

Good luck in your search.

I have one but dangit, it doesn't have heated mattresses... Maybe something I can fix with some wires since it has a deep cycle battery... :D

We have a Jayco 10z "off road" model. It is great. We keep all the camping stuff in and when we want to camp, we just buy food and drinks and go! It will take all fire roads and some light trails.

I added AC and I love it for summers at state parks. Nothing like stepping into 63 degrees to sleep when it is 90 out! Surprisingly, the heat is also great. I know canvas can't insulate, but the little furnace is awesome. Only thing I wish I got was hot water, that'd be nice. I may get a Zodi x-40 to fill that gap.

I'd highly recommend one!

This is our Pop-Up after a SOA and upgrading to a 13" 5 lug wheel.

We had to criss cross a bunch of dry creek beds to get here, the pop-up wouldn't have survived with the stock wheels and axle configuration.

This is my FWC on a 2010 Tacoma 4X4. I love it. I like being able to wake up warm in the morning, make my coffee and and have a movement and then go outside. Yes I use a 12v heating pad. It has a furnace, a toilet, a sink, a stove, stores 12 gallons of water and ALOT more.
Hope this helps.

Not sure if they make it anymore, but Coleman bought Fleetwood and they have the Evo 1.

My wife and I were actually just talking about this earlier today and I posted on a different automotive forum I frequent about them... My wife and I are younger, but have a 3 and a half year old daughter and another baby on the way. I am fine with camping in a tent, but a pop-up trailer would be awesome for the kids so we can camp more often and have it warm enough for them until they are a little older.

That was essentially the whole purpose behind my popup project. I was always a tent (or ground) sleeper. Then came the wife, then came the kids. It took too long to get the camping gear packed up, setup camp, tear down, and put it all away. Now with the popup, we grab food & clothes, and hit the road. The rest of the package is good to go. Also with the camper I built, we can still go just about anywhere our Cruiser can, and prefer to spend our time in unimproved backcountry locations.

More than a decade after your post but...

I bought this same one (a 2003 model) last September (2022) for $1200.
I LOVE that it has so much...in fact, it's a little overkill for me but I'd rather be over than under, you know?
I'm thinking about gutting the little kitchen and putting in more storage space...I'm not a fan of my clothing or bedding smelling like the burger or bacon I cooked up :D

This is a 1983 Coleman Columbia that I have had for a few years. Got it for $800 and it was in great shape. Still has the original canvas with just 3 small holes in it. Unfortunately, I am on the hunt for a replacement. The entire redneck setup was parked at a friends house when a freak flood happened and the entire thing went under water. I dried it, cleaned it and tore out most of the electrical. Changed out one electrical board in the ac and it still works. I have used it like this for a while but the floor is about done so I am looking for a newer one. We love the set up though.
