I spent the day trying to get both an analog and digital tach to work on my "spare" 2F engine that has the hybrid points-igniter system. I tried getting the signal off the coil at the negative terminal, and also at the distributor lug for the points. Could not get a signal at either point. I am now thinking I will have to use an inductance type tach that wraps around the #1 spark plug wire. My '79 2F which uses a pickup coil in the dizzy that is actually in my 40 has no problem working the tach at the usual pulse point at the coil negative. Has anyone gotten a tach to work using their original Toyota '76 '77 '78 hybrid points/igniter system ? (not sure when the hybrid system began and ended). If so, please describe the solution.
