My Nitto Ridge Grapplers are 285/70R17 which translates to a 32.7" x 11.2" tire. For my next set, I'm contemplating the Kenda Klever RT 33x10.5 which actually are like a 32.76" x 10.46" per some post that I think I read online.

I have 17x9 wheels with a -12 offset and my current tires rub the sway bar and frame on full turn. Also, I cannot run 255/80R17s because my wheels are a tad too wide. Max wheel width on the 255s is 8.5".

The pros of the Kenda Klever RT 33x10.5:
1. Maybe it won't rub because they are slightly skinnier.
2. Maybe they are a tad lighter.
3. Fit a 17x9 wheel which is what I have
4. $181/tire at walmart if they have them on stock

The cons:
1. It's a hard tire size to find a spare in case of emergency.

Anyone have opinions on going 33x10.5?

I think TLar25 runs them in the 35x10.50 variant. But I have not heard someone running the 33x1050 version. If I don't regear, thats the size I will be eyeing myself so I am interested in this info as well.

I know there were a few guys running that size on the Facebook group back when I was on there. And my buddy actually just put a set on his 3rd gen Tacoma. I'll link to the post I made in the Tacoma section about it. He's running 17x9 methods. Stock UCA's, about 3"of lift in the front, no rubbing

i would stray away from stretching on such a wide wheel. 10.5 width is the same width as stock tires, which are fitted to 7 or 7.5" wheels. I would keep your wheel width to an 8.0 or less with 265/10.5s.

Good point, but I've read the manufacturer's tire spec and they list a min, max, and a rim width used for measuring their specs? Not sure what the rim width represents, but I'll say recommended (Rec).

For these Kenda Klever's in 33x10.5, Kenda recommends the following wheel widths:
Rec = 8.5"
Min = 7.0"
Max = 9.0"

Kenda Klever RT Tire Specs

So, what does it mean to run at the min or max rim width?

For the GX470, a 17x8.5" wheel with a zero offset might be the best option to take on all popular tire sizes for the GX470.

Running at max width should mean nothing really at normal PSI. It may present some issues if you air down a lot tho, I’d prefer to be in the middle for that.

That is interesting that Kenda recommends such a wide wheel! My Cooper ST MAXX 255/80r17 is 10.2" wide tread but they list a 6.5-8.5" wheel width range, but recommend 7.0"

being near the far edge of the wheel range for a tire means increased risk popping a bead when aired down, and being on the higher end leaves less sidewall width to protect the wheel from rocks and such.

From an aesthetics stand point, running higher wheel width tends to give the tires a more rounded stretched look. the narrower wheel helps keep the tire looking more square from the front/back. Granted, too narrow of wheel and you start rounding out again but in the other direction, looking like marshmallows.

Like mentioned above Id avoid stretching the tire especially in times when you lower the tire pressure. You'll definitely blow a bead.

I've considered going to this size as well but would have to sell my current setup. Was thinking about running a factory FJ steelie.

If a range of widths is given, the the manufacturer is stating that's the safe range to stay within. Given the Kenda is a R/T tire and the side walls are decently strong, I'd have zero concern running it at 15 psi on a 8.5" rim (and do very often).
I'm on the 35"/10.5, not the 33" version on an 8.5" wide wheel and I have driven in rocks, mud, sand ect aired down and have never popped a bead.

I run these tires in 33x10.5. I have them on 17x8.5 wheels with a 0 offset. I like them and they've done everything I've asked of them. They're a bit louder than the wildpeaks I had on previously, but nothing that bugs me. They are a heavy tire in this size (62.33 lbs). The 285/70/17 is lighter (55.18 bls), but has 2 mm less tread depth.

Wow. I didn’t realize this 33x10.5 was heavier than it’s 285/70R17 counterpart

How do you like those Toyo's in the winter weather?

I just put on Goodyear MT/R 33/10.5R17s

So far, happy with them. They are a bit loud and there is some vibration, but they are a Mud Terrain, and it's honestly way better than other mud terrains I have driven with.

Your wheel width and offset are helping the tires rub the sway bar.

I have 34x10.5 and my wheel is 8.5" wide, 0 offset, that the PO put on. I'm going for a 285/75 tire next time and I wish my wheels were only 8" wide. I may see if someone wants to trade at some point, because I don't want to buy new wheels... I may also add some wheel spacers if I don't get new wheels.

When airing down, the narrower wheel is better for keeping the bead on.

What's your offset? What did you need to do to get them to fit? Trying to sort this out for my GX 470.

Just picked up a set of 33x10.5R17's and going to throw them on my 7" wide TRD wheels. Just have to be careful when I air them down to not pop the bead. Can't wait to see how they perform off road!

You will love them

I can't see the extra expense and pita, just to trade 285s for 33s? Now if you 285s are toast.. then sure.why not. I like my 285s just fine and I'll keep em.

On a 460 it's easier to fit 33x10.5 then a 285/70r17
