Has anyone MTB'd moab?

I'm going for spring-break and am curious to know what kinda pain I am in for. Gonna get a TON of pictures, and drool all over the toyotas I see. Kinda wish I would have seen Moab from my drivers seat, but this is sponsored by the University so its dirt cheap.

I'm running a hard-tail MOTOBECANE. My buddys are building some full suspension rides for this, but... I spend my money in gas and truck parts :flipoff2:

You will have a blast. Slick rock on a hard tail is fun, porcupine rim on a hard tail is will beat you up big. Lots of trails to ride. Hit up poison spyder bike shop for trail maps and info.
Normally not a ton of Toyotas around, mostly heeps. If your spring break is on the weekend of March 12th, a bunch of Rising Sun and Wasatch Cruiser guys will be camping at area BFE, and running trails in Moab in their Toyotas, myself included.
Have fun.

I have been to Moab mostly to mtb, only to 4wheel once, so I am on the flipside of things. Now, I like to do both when I am out there. You will definitely feel the rocks on a hardtail, but that is how I used to ride Moab for the first few years I was out there. I don't know your skill level, but ones I never miss are Amasa back (aka Cliffhanger as the wheelers call it), slickrock, porcupine rim, the list goes on.

Well damn, its the weekend after. Maybe ill run into a few stragglers.

Im getting really impatient... Waiting to get some warmth here so we can go out and hit some of the more remote trails!

Its going to be March 20th-27th. Driving straight there, napping for a couple hours then biking none stop. If/when we get a bit of slick rock rash we've got a couple short one day trips planned for arches national park.

If you do Porcupine make sure you start from the top... its a sweeeeeet ride but they right.. it will beat you up real good on a HT bike...

If you get a chance swing by Fruita for some great riding. About 90 minutes from Moab and a much different ride.

Yes, Fruita would be a good side trip and trails there are smoother as they are not all on solid rock.

I like Porcupine Rim the most in Moab but you will be wishing for a soft tail. Check out Bartlett Slickrock for a playground type ride. Basically just a big slickrock area you freeride as there is no defined trail. The Slickrock trail is a must do ride if you've never been and good on a hard tail but plan a lot of people as its the tourist must do ride. A lot of overlap there with Hells Revenge 4x4 trail so you can see some rigs on that one. Depending on your fitness you could do the Goldbar Rim/Golden Spike/Poison Spider ride. Thats a good one but long day. Take lots of water. Enjoy. I'll be down there the week before as well. But I do't know of anyone sticking around. Another trail I like on a bike is Cliffhanger or Amasa Back trail. Outstanding views.

Here is a shot of my wife and I on the Slickrock Trail. A soft tail tandem is the most fun on two wheels I've ever had.

Thankfully Im not the biggest novice going, but I do drink alot of water. When I was hiking the grand canyon i consumed about 10L a day. I think this is going to be more physically demanding.

Ive realized I have no patience...

For the longer rides make sure you have a large camel back and bottles on the bike. Stuff like the slickrock trail are pretty short really, 12 miles or so. When I was fit it was easy to do in under an hour. So water was never really an issue unless temps were very hot.

So, we drove through 25 hours of blizzard conditions, i've lost my cell phone somewhere in arizona, lost my knee cap... and still havent had enough MOAB! Pics to come... Ive got 4 more days!
