Well that is a freaking perfect apparently easy solution!!!!!
What was it about the initial cabling that didn't work out?

I'm thinking about a small disc brake/caliper setup but can't find anyone that sells them.

Just like the fj40. They had the parking brake drum on the driveshaft but I remember there were disc conversions for sale. Been out of the 40 market for a long time.

I know the 40 has a drum brake parking brake, I wonder if it can be modified for the 80. The Land Rover Disco has it.

Don't know. I like them better than the p brakes on the wheels tho.

I dont know about all 80s series, but my US import and all I am familiar with have front and rear disk brakes, the rear disks also have a drum for the parking/emergency brake. Nice bit of redundancy for safety IMHO. We were just talking about how to reposition the parking brake handle to the dash or elsewhere to put in different seating or center storage.

I know, just got off track. Back to the regularly scheduled program.

I bought a Tacoma hand brake and will be doing this on my lx450 Chinook in April so the pass through to the rear is completely flat. I know it's a ways out but hang tight... if anyone wanta to jump in first and road map it with custom parts.... feel free

Watching this thread. On Ute project, we plan to add 10" or so to frame, so I need to figure out how to extend or move the parking brake.

One thing to be aware of, differing setups can have different pull length/leverage ratios. For instance, the dash mounted FJ40 has a long pull with little leverage, the FJ60 floor mount has a shorter pull with more leverage. When a 60 axle is installed in an early 40 and the dash lever is retained, it can be pulled as tight as you can and not do anything. We have made a bell-crank under the rig to solve this problem, but it's a pain/fiddly to get it right.
