why would meticulous records scare any sane person away?

Sane is the key phrase here and defined by different standards to different people. 99.99% of the population would think this guy is some kind of kook.

what about my record? I think it is almost as complete. I keep it online, and online only. Sure beats pencil entries on a small notebook when it comes to survival.

Chris777,
All I see is oil changes lately on your truck. Looks like you've been able to keep away from the addictive upgrade problem most of us have.

yes, you are right. that is because of 3 reasons:

1. I don't have much left to do

2. I don't have much money right now

3. the less I drive it (because of high gas prices), the less it needs to be repaired.

I would like to put on sliders this year.
next year I would like to add a rear tire carrier and a safari rack
one of these days I might go for the ARB locker in the rear

and that is about it..... no really! I mean it!

My 60 had one of those logs from the po. I have 6 years worth of notes stating all the maintenance and costs, to include where he bought fuel, how much it cost, number gallons to the .01, octane rating of the fuel, the odometer reading, and mpg estimates.

99.99% of the population is kooks...

I don't keep it in a log format, but I do keep all the service records and invoices in a folder. I charted all the info on a truck I sold to a friend, and it's amazing how useful it is to see that the [insert widget of choice] failed twice, or was already serviced.

Also helps with pricing on things I just HAD to have but a year later decided to sell cuz I wasn't using 'em.

every tank of fuel, every screw turned, every penny spent...I'm getting old, gotta write stuff down or I'll forgetaboutit...the PO started it when he bought this rig in "84" I'm just keeping the books current..

A meticulous record would not scare me! Actually, all of us should be keeping records of some sort (perhaps not every quart of oil). Just follow the threads where some cruiser owner was in an accident that was not his/her fault. Without the records, the other guys insurance company has you at their mercy. They are going to "total" your rig and give you $1500.
