my speedo works, odometre doesnt, have changed out a instrument unit to find that wasnt the issue, does the odometre have a seperate sensor somewhere?
please help, this issue has knobs on it

hjz80 4x4 rv model 94'

Check the back of the cluster, make sure all the circuits on that blue paper are in tact and that all necessary bolts are in place.

Out of curisity, does it have factory cruise control and if so, does it still work?

cruise control doesnt work, I have removed it, yes circuits are intact as I just replaced the head unit with a verified one, unlikely I think that the main wiring harness from the instrument panel to the cable connector at the top of the gearbox.

A friend of mine suggested that water has got in the speedo sensor and fried it, am going to replace and see if that fixes it,

There's wiring diagrams available in the RESOURCES section found in the forum menu at the top of the page. Or if you're using a mobile, click on the three bars on the top left for drop down menu

I am not going to dig up a EWD for hjz80 4x4 rv model 94' model, but so this might not apply. You though should acquire your EWD for your model.

Does your model have a mechanical cable for the speedometer?

The 80s I have seen use a gear driven sensor that sends pulses to the speedometer (and ECM). Your odometer is built into your speedometer and they use the same signal.

There isn't a section on diagnosing the odometer in my FSM or EWD as it is built into the speedometer. I mean, you could have two bad odometers....

or is that the suggestion?

EWD: Electronic wiring diagram
ECU: Engine control unit
ECM: Engine control module (same as ECU)
FSM: Factory service manual

The Toyota EWD and FSM are available as a free download in the resources section and are invaluable when troubleshooting.
