I’ve been testing shock guards from BudBuilt.

They have now completed a revised design for final production which should become available soon.

Nice! Hopefully they are ready before I need a new rear shock lol!

@Taco2Cruiser is the guy you should talk to re BudBuilt stuff here. They were kind enough to include me in field testing, but Taco can answer any questions you may have.

If you have large bore shocks, make sure they will work. The Icon shields will not work properly with the Tough Dog, TJM and I'd assume Ironman ProCells as they are the same OD as the Tough Dog.

You have to bend the shield out another 25-35 degrees and well... then they become a PITA and a liability. Not to mention, not effective for the protection they were designed for.

Thanks for the info guys. I search around to see if anyone is using them with OME. If so, I might try them out this week and will update everyone with my findings.

The rear icon shock guards just came in! Looks kinda small :/ but it might fit my OME rear shocks...

I'll update everyone some time next week. Gunna be out this weekend.

The Lexus keys are just for sizing reference. This is going on an 08 Land Cruiser :X

Sorry for the late response, I have a job that can really consume my time every now and then. You may want to return those Icon guards as they have a serious flaw.

With only the lower shock bolt being the attachment point, once you hit something (which obviously happens since you need shock guards) the shin guard can rotate, and then it collides with your rear lower control arm.

BudBuilt and I designed the new 200 shock guards around the failures of the Icon and gave it 3 mounting points to eliminate rotation.

These are the production version of the “Mark IIs” designed with additional testing (beating) from @Markuson during the recent Moab/Break trip.

Today is a comp day for me, so I’ll bolt these on and post some pictures that will show them in a bit better.

I would totally upgrade to those ones! Looks great. If I can’t return them, I’ll just install them. Been wanting new lower control arms anyways lol.
Did icon have multiple revisions of this? Yours looks a bit different. Maybe it’s just the angle of the photo.

What I love about the Mark II shown is how you and Bud not only eliminated BOTH possible rotation failures...but actually *simplified* the original prototype's design as well.

Strong + Simple = WIN

[Reaches for Visa card...!]

No, those Icons you have are the same as the ones in that photo. I bought those Icons of mine about 6 years ago, but I took the picture today.

Here’s some better pictures.

To keep the BP-51 plastic shaft guard to prevent stone damage. Can’t tell you how many Icon shafts I’ve replaced over the years (even with the Icon shin guards) you just need to trim the plastic below the mounting bolts and remove the metal shin plate.

Pop the BudBuilt 200 series lower shock skid on and put a bolt thought the factory shock mount.

The put a massive 5/8” bolt through the shock tower.

And torque the lower shock bolt to factory specs (72 lb ft) while on the ground and tighten the 5/8” bolt up.

Shocks and axle, along with one of the most vulnerable spot on a 200 armored for some serious rock/who knows what bashing.

Thanks for sharing! Looks solid. I'll probably end up with them after they get released :D

I need a pair too.

Looking good!

Finally had a chance to install the guards after work today.

Here's what the trails did to my lower shock bolts. So I had to get new ones

Here's the guard installed on an OME shock.

Despite all the negative feedback on this thread, it beats the OME rock guards that bent long with the lower shock bolt...
That said, looking forward to upgrading to the budbuilt ones XD

Digging this thread back up. Which icon shock guards fit the 200? I'm assuming the FJ ones will fit? If that's the case there are other, better, FJ shock guard options.

Need something before Moab in a couple weeks.
