i started a thread like yours and got not one reply. hopefully now there will be some pics that
will be posted here. is there a aversion from 40 owners in using led lightbars in their rigs?
with all the 40's around i find it hard to believe not one has installed such.

led lightbars wouldnt look weird in a 40. thats my opinion. we just have to remember that its meant to be
used for off-road purposes only.

Don't see anything wrong with the look, but they're a bit expensive. I use vision-X Tantrum LEDs for rock lights and like them a lot.

Personally, while I like the idea of the LED light bar (tons of light, rugged, low power draw), I don't think they would complement the looks of an FJ40 very well, especially those with a round bezel. A square bezel might be a different story though.

Not exactly a 40, but you get the idea.

yea i love led lights. have converted 99% of my fj to have them. no light bar yet due to cost. those damn things are pricy. next thing would be some LED headlights but again, spending 600 bucks on some headlights is hard to do.

For your KCs you can swap in up to 130 watt bulbs to help with their light output. Not necessarily the best option, but definatly an option... I would like a light bar too but dang they are spendy.
B.

... or, install an HID kit into your KCs

The Icon is similar enough. I was just thinking they would look too..."new." I am wanting a set of the morimotos from 2000UZJ in the vendors section. Maybe I'll score some 2x2s as backup/camp lights and see what they look like up front.

I agree with the square bezel comment too. With my round bezel it may look out of place.

Would you mind posting some pics if you have them? I want to add some better offroad lighting, but I feel (I know this may seem sissy) like the led light bars may look kinda weird on an older rig. I love the look of the old KC style lights I have now, but the light output sucks.

Well, there's you're problem.

You have a towel over your right side light. ;p

I understand your concern with square lights on a round bezel vehicle, but the Icon handles it by hiding them in a square bumper/stinger. You can try the same.

No matter what you do, I'm sure it'll look fine.

Best,

T

So prices are dropping, anyone here bolting them on? I'm looking at a 14" bar to go in front of the mounting plate of my 8274 winch. Anyone?

Something like this but on my HFS bumper...

Found this one on eBay, anyone know the seller "oleds"? Or does anyone know the rig? I'm digging this setup across the top of the windshield for sure maybe a little more width but man they "fit" the look of a 40 IMHO...

You may not be riding in the woods but I never mounted lights up high on the Zebranator because we came across low limbs way too often. If'n you're rinding grocery lots or granite gardens that's fine.

(no offense intended)

guess I am old school, but IMOP 40's and 60's look best with a 7inch round light, I prefer Cibie, amber fogs or clear drivers, with a 55watt halogen bulb, along with a good set of H4 headlights(and upgraded harness)

now on a trail rig, I would consider LED because of their low draw and are/can be more durable

I converted a set of Hella 700ff's on my 62 to HID. Put light guards on the outside as well. TONS of light output, oldschool round light look. I think Im going to do the same on my 40 when I get to that point. The kit was from DDM tunning and was really easy to install.

None taken, I used to wheel down south with the limbs you are describing... I now wheel in Colorado, we don't see the same amount low hanging limbs at 10,000 ft ;)

I'm a fan of the round lights too, I have upgraded headlights and 2 hella 4000's on my front bumper that really light the night up, but the LED thing ain't going away anytime soon either.

here is my set up, i liked it at first, but its fading and im curious about other spots
