Any reviews/experience with this EGT gauge..

I purchased 3 gauges from glowshift for my 96 Powerstroke, EGT, Boost, and Transmission Temp. They seem to be good gauges. I have had zero problems with them.
Post up if you purchase them and you have problems.

Their page is weak to say the least and you do have to buy the probe separately.

What I like (and it is not clear on their page, make sure you email them) is that it has outputs you can program to do whatever you like under certain conditions.

Mine is easy -- I hooked up a 5 buck seat belt alarm when EGT exceeds 1270 degress and it goes back off when I drop under 1250.

The purpose of an EGT gauge is to watch the EFT temps. Even experienced drivers can miss something. Experience tells you when you should be having a problem. But that does not always work and the loud alarm saves your engine.

I had a problem once ... running fine and I was on the freeway. Suddenly my alram screamed and since I was on the flat at 55 I was surprised. Turned out an air hose came off and I was losing all the boost ... and when I put my foot down black as heck smoke. But, the alarm found it first.

You can also drive solonoids and in theory mess with fuel and boost and all kinds of things.

It also has memory which I like, and it has a way to wire the headlight switch in to dim it at night which works perfectly. I simply tapped a dash light.

I velcroed it to the bottom of my A/C disperser (Vintage A/C) on the left -- this was a plus, no holes in my dash, etc.

For some the digital look may be offensive ... but it is actually so small I don't find it so.

I also used the "Tiny Tach" -- a small digital tach that is also very nice.

I have all Glowshift gauges in my HDJ81. They work great. My only complaints are 1) you can't dim the backlight or turn it off completely, and 2) my boost gauge is mechanical so it doesn't do a startup sweep like my other two electrical gauges.
 
I have a VDO Cockpit Black Pyro and Boost gauges on my 4BT 80 and Auometer on my HZJ75. Look nice and haven't failed me yet;)
 
This I like for viewing , Needles / analog is EZ like a watch , Digital is , take 3 seconds to compute crap.

Glad all my needles are EZ seen as I fly.
Radio is the trick one that takes a bit 4 the correct channel .

I bought Auto meter only because i can buy parts , here and there . pryo use's generic temp sensor , same as 5 other makes around the world, badge like there own. plus only one back lit bulb.

I used an auber instruments pyro gauge... I like the digital but I'm still not a huge fan.

I'd like to wire up an alarm, that sounds cool.


I used a tiny tach, and it worked fantastic!
 
The digital display is a little utlitarian but I can read it faster than the analog (I have both) -- it is the alarm that makes all the difference. Go to Napa -- five bucks. Two wires connect to the back (instructions say where) and then you program it for when it goes off and on. Mine fires up at 1270 and goes off at 1250 ... this means when I hear the alarm I back off and when the alarm goes off I know I can stay at that speed more or less without setting it off again (because in could climb to 1269 silently). Even if you hate the looks, you could mount it out of sight just to get the alarm. In my case I used the same temp probe and split it, one to the analog and one to the digital. It is interesting as they both do get almost equal readings -- BUT -- the digital is WAY faster. If I punch it on a hill it will hit 1270 while the analog is still at 1000 ... it catches up in say 5-10 seconds, same with on the way down. This to I value. Eric
 
I have been happy with the company and that one looks just fine. You can always call them. They also have install manuals on line. I think you made a good pick! I would spring for the alarm, that my favorite feature. I'd also spend the time to wire a dashlight lead to it, so that it dims when the headlights are on. Any update on this? I'm looking at getting a pair of the Auber gauges for boost and EGT, and would love to hear how you made out with them.
 
Still working great!

I am looking at putting in an intercooler. The AXT (which my turbo is) generally runs off of a Hobbs switch for boost. I am going to instead trigger a relay for when the fan and pump go on, from the gauge. I'll keep you posted on the intercooler and it's install. Cheric
 
I got them, they look good quality but never got around to installing them yet.
I ordered the gauge, the EGT sensor and a small aluminum enclosure box to house the gauge (don't really want to hack my dash).
