Any recommendations for an OBDII code reader for my 2003?

I'm starting to tinker and catch up on the maintenance for my 2003 4Runner Limited V8.

I'll be getting a set of FSMs soon. I know they're available online but I'd rather have them in print and not hassle with printing and binding.

My previous Toyotas were pre-OBDII so I just pulled the codes by watching the engine light blink ;): So now it seems like I should get a code reader, or perhaps an interface for a laptop?

Thanks for any info

You can buy several, not a lot of differences aside from interface and price:

$30 Auto Zone reader...I have one in my glove box. Cheap, easy, but you have to plug in to read.
$100 Bluetooth reader...you can have it beam to a laptop or non-apple product (unless it is certified with apple) - cordless, always on, can read real time data with software (usually extra)
$100 wifi reader - will work with ipad and any wifi device with software (usually extra)

There are also iOS and android format plug in interfaces that allow you to do real time with those devices as well.

It is really about how much you want to geek out :)

scanguage II is a great little reader that also can stay plugged in and mount under or on your dash for addtl. realtime readouts

just realized this is an old thread.- good info anyway.
