Any pic of 2.5" lift with stock tires?

I never even thought once about regearing with that setup. All trucks are a little different given, but I would find a local 80 or club and drive one with that setup. SHouldn't be too hard to find, like said a very common setup.

Ok, got it, and thanks again!

How about speedometer recalibration for the ~5% difference?

When i ran 285's, it was off a little, but never really noticed. On 315's I do notice and tend to look at my GPS more than the speedo doing anything 35. Just never have gotten around to correcting it. One day I will throw mark's correcto thing in.

^ That's ~1.5" over stock size, correct? Any need to regear? I know if going taller than that it's probably a good idea, just wonder about that 33-ish height.

Thanks!

No need to regear. Very common, looks right with 2-2.5" lift. Usually no issues with that combo.

Depends on your terrain, altitude and attitude! 285's were fine in Virginia at sea level on flat land. Acceleration and hill climbing at freeway speeds at 6000' altitude in Wyoming was terrible and I was passed by big rigs on every hill. I put in a 2UZ and it was much better, then regeared to 4.88's and it became more fun to drive than my last BMW roadster. Regearing is much less expensive than installing a 2UZ. 285's without regearing is about 3% difference (slow) between speedometer indicated speed and true speed.

Resurrecting this from the dead instead of starting a new thread/same topic...

Has anyone kept stock size tires with the 2.5" lift long term? I wouldn't mind going ~1" taller on the tires (with lift) but don't want to get into re-gearing, less MPG, etc...

Thoughts? Newer pics?

Thanks again!

Don't know why you want to stay stock. I'm still running stock after 12 yrs of ownership and 8 of those with the lift. I've also got a lot of armor so I'll need to regear if I go bigger, uphill performance is bad enough as it is with the extra weight. Mine's not locked either, but I do have a winch. I still like the looks:

Couple of street pix before the sliders:

Some say with stock tires, it looks stupid. Hogwash!

Some may regear for that size. I run 37" tires with stock gears.:meh: Have owned 5.29 gears for ~5 years, still sitting on the bench, so must not be very worried about it?:hillbilly:

Same day I put the suspension system on. 850/863, no extra weight. 265s.

Long after the suspension settled, I also had added the Slee 1" spacers up front by then. With ARB, Warn 8274, Hanna sliders, a drawer setup with too much stuff in it, fridge, etc. 7.50-16 on Aussie split rims.

80t0ylc,I do like the way it looks with those knobby 265's... Beefy tires = good! I have the 2.5 lift plus the 1.5" metal tech spacers on mine. I'm running 285's and I like them. Stock gears. I'll admit that I'd like to have 315's, but until I have a rear tire carrier, storage makes it a no go. Besides, with the metal tech sliders they are fabbing for me now, there probably aren't many places I'll want to go that a little finesse and my lockers won't get me too. Oh, and the knobby tires!

I don't feel like I need to regear. Like I said, I would consider 315's on stock gears. And I traded my 35" Toyo's on my wrangler for 33" Toyo's. Gearing was not good with 35's with my 4.10 gears in the jeep. Just saying, I'm definitely not above calling a spade a spade. Gears are fine.

Thank you all for your responses and my apologies to the OP...this was not a hijack attempt!

In theory, I'd like to stay stock on the tire size for MPG, minimize weight gain, minimize sluggishness, etc., that might be associated with a larger diameter tire, but that ~1.5" increase might not be too bad. I'm not too concerned with how it would look, but, if it would handle unsafely with the smaller tires then I would definitely go larger.

I started a thread a week or so asking about tire size and the mountains. There was some good feedback on the effect of tire size on performance. I see you live in the bay area, and have many hills, and mountains well above sea level close by. Something to consider if what you stated is truly a concern.

BTW, I currently have the 1" lift with stock tire size 275/70/16 (31.2), looking at 265/75/16 (31.8) vs. 285/75/16(32.8) FWIW.

Yes, lotsa hills, that's part of the reason for concern. I like that second (of the three) size, will keep that in mind and will look for your thread.

Thanks!
