Tomorrow the fam is going up the hill (88 or 4)
The plan is just play around until we are wet.
Most likely the over snow travel will be by foot.
Not much of a "trip" But should be fun anyway.

The more the merrier.

ken

Ellis rd. will most likely be the spot.
As long as the guys on snowboards being towed by atv in the middle of the hwy are not there.
(boneheads)

Ill be up around 11- 12:00

Did Pardoe's Trail solo

Decided to be a little spontaneous yesterday and went up to Pardoe's Trail. Went in through Bear River Reservoir at 3 PM and came out to Hwy 88 through Mud Lake by 8:30. Did it solo. Damn that was an ordeal. The trail is rated as a 5/10, but I think thats for people with modified trucks. Not stock. I stacked a lot of rocks. Got stuck multiple times. Got high centered once. Thats what happens when you don't have a spotter. Toughest trail I've been on so far. What makes this trail tough are the numerous really tight turns you gotta make. I gotta say, I don't recommend doing this trail solo with a stock truck. There were a lot of quads and dirt bikers that were in shock and disbelief that I got that far. Kept saying I wasn't going to make it. And they didn't even see the worst of it. They all turned around when all they can see was granite, cuz they thought the trail was a dead end. The only carnage was that I broke my exhaust mounts, again. At least the tail pipe mount is still good, so it doesn't rattle on the hwy/pavement. But on the trail it made for a nice symphony banging against the frame.

More pics

Those marks on the rocks are all from me. The last two pics, I'm high centered and stuck.

Nope, no damage that can be seen. The steps got pushed up and the attachments went into the bottom of the body, but thats about it. Those nerf bars are on their life number 6 or 7 at least. No funny noises went I hit the pavement, nothing leaking, everything is normal. Besides the exhaust mounts.

Beretta,

You are a brave man.
Check your diff plugs, make sure they are still tight.

Alvaro

Yeah, once it cools down a bit I'm gonna crawl under there and give things a look around.

Brave? Maybe. There is a thin and somewhat blurry line between brave and stupid...

Dude your an aniamal ! AND you started @ 3 pm wehew.

It looks like your lady is crying..........

glad you made it through.

Haha, it looks like she's frustrated with how things were going, but she covered her face cuz she didn't wanna be in the pic.

Well, after crawling under to check things out, the exhaust mounts are fine. None are broken. So what was making the noise? A mount broke. Don't know what it is. Anybody know what it is? Critical part? Thats the passenger side rear axle. Either way I'll go in and get it welded tomorrow.

WOW !!!! Nice work man.

Thats the upper rear controll arm mount , How in the heck did you break that?

ken

I think it broke due to rust and corrosion, coupled with the full flex when I was high centered and the bumpy road. There aren't any impact marks, but theres rust all along the welds, which is where it broke.

Beretta,

Don't drive it anymore. You could damage your rear differential (ring & pignon).
Have that braket welded again as soon as you can.

Alvaro

Looks like fun!

And I thought I was nuts soloing the Strawberry trail in my Jeepster. At least I was doing it in the downhill direction so I had gravity on my side.

Okay, this is getting annoying. Not as easy as I thought it would be. Thought it was just a $20 weld job. I've literally called dozens of places (auto repairs, exhaust repairs, welding fabrication shops, even auto body shops), and only 2 said they would do it. One place is backed up and can't look at it til next week. Another said it might take over an hour of labor? The rest don't wanna touch it due to liability issues, DOT regulations about welding on suspension components, and something about tempered/hardened steel. Who knew.

So, I'm thinking of doing it myself. Gonna go down to the machine shop on campus and grab some scrap pieces of steel to use for reinforcements and either borrow one of the MIGS there or use the stick welder my apartment manager has. Bad idea or good idea?
