Any Norcal day trips planned?

I’m bored. I need some action. I’ve been anticipating this trip; waiting for a snow storm. The winter storm advisory ends tomorrow at noon, and I plan to be there to catch the end of it. I’m gonna head out tomorrow (Weds 12/27). If you don’t wanna go or can’t make it, it’s cool. Gonna refuel and stock up in Pollock Pines.

I plan to air down to 12 PSI, and go as far as I can with 3 stucks (lives?), turning around (game over?) on the 3rd stuck. Between the floor mats, jack, and shovel, I think I’ll manage. If not, well, that’s why I’ve got extra supplies, food, gas, blanket, etc. Iron Mountain Road is well traveled, someone (most likely Jeepers) is bound to show up sooner or later.

That's too bad.

It's going to be cool tomorrow, whiteout conditions. 1.5 ft of new snow expected at lower elevations, with 3 ft expected above 7000 ft. Wind gusts around 50 MPH, with 130 MPH being the highest recorded. I'll record some video and take pics.

Just got back. Whole bunch of snow, 7 ft drifts and 3 ft on the road. Too tired right now, need to get drunk, pics and details later.

Found out something interesting. A tow strap breaking is relatively harmless. Seriously, no sarcasm. But I guess the keyword is "tow" and not a snatch strap. At the first tug, there was a knot on the strap. It was my strap, I should have caught it. On the second tug, the strap broke, because of the knot. It was a snap and thats it, no drama. Maybe the safety latches on the hooks prevented disaster. He (the other guy, I didn't catch his name) tied it and we continued using it, because we didn't have any D-shackles for the snatch strap he had. It broke, and we tied it, and broke, and tied it. Three breaks total.

The first time it broke, it caught my attention. I flashed back to that incident last April that involved a D-shackle and Carl's pillar. We were talking and it turns out the guy heard the story from Inchworm Jim, the one that was pulling Carl's rig.

Okay, try it now. It should work.

The bases/drifts were at least 7 ft towards the end. At the Silver Fork turn off, there was maybe 1.5 ft on the road. Thats as far as I got alone. With help, got about 3/4 way to the Leek Spring Lookout. A good 3 ft over at that end.

Thanks for the compliments about the slide show.

The trails are going to be torn up by the time you guys get there. There was quite a few people. Being the first to get to the fresh snow was cool.
