I'm part of the VW tdi settlement and I've got $1000 credit at the VW parts counter and these are the only tires available in my size.
The diesel is totaled and They're buying it back.

I was leaning toward Nitto's or KO2's but this seems like a no-brainer.
Mostly pavement, occasionally off the road.

Anyone run these?
Thanks

I personally wouldn't use them on a 100 series, due to vehicle weight and traction, but if they are free what do you have to lose. KO2 or a good Michelin is what I would use.

I've read nothing but negative things about them and most refer to them as Rugged Fails.

Yeah that's what I've found.
It's actually a $500 visa and $500 credit both expiring in November.

It's actually a hard call.
Free tires or just forget about the $500 credit.

I am part of the VW settlement too! My wife's TDI sportwagen has been a great car, but if they are buying it back, gotta do it! I think I want to get her into the Q5 TDI, but I am unsure what's happening with the larger TDI engines too.... In reference to the Rugged Trail, they are great road tires, they last a really long time. I have had experience with them on an old Tacoma. If you have any kind of offroad / snow use, I would not recommend them.

Someone T-boned me in June in my sportwagen and I was so pissed.
But it allowed me to finally get into a low mileage 2006 100.

After months of being in limbo I'm able to settle for damages and still return the car to the dealership with full payout.

That comes out to paying cash for the cruiser and 8K in my pocket + free tires.

I loved my tdi and I love it even more now!

dont let it expire. Get $500 of parts you can put on ebay

Another idea is just to buy tires in common size, like for Camry, then sell it on Craigslist (no eBay fee to deal with). I would not get it expired.

Excellent points
I assume some place like discount tire wouldn't give me decent credit on brand new tires. I'll call
Buy 2 from VW and 5 from DT

rugged trails get terrible reviews over at tacomaworld. they are standard issue on the TRD OR. Go bfg KO if you have to get BFG.

How Good or Bad are the BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A Tires?

Read for the LULZ...

"they are the suck

I mean

THEY ARE THE SUCK

they arent a dedicated road tire, so their onroad grip sucks.
They arent a A/T offroad tire, so their offroad grip sucks.

theyre right in the middle of sucking at both."

"
Garbage! Everytime I go to my truck I just want to slash my own tires. Off road truck you say? well, where the hell are my off road tires at, huh?!?! I'll tell ya where they aren't....they aren't ON MY TRUCK!"

"I got those tires off as fast as I could. After 20,000 miles they were just plain dangerous in the rain."

Thats just the first page...
