Have you seen any LX 470's without cladding or removed your cladding?

Can you share pics if so?

I just got my first 100 series, a '99.

The intention is to customize it quite alot and because of the intended tire dimensions being oversized, we were thinking about making the wheel well larger, therefore removing cladding and changing the front fender opening.

Sounds interesting.

Hey Bro!!

There are 100+ holes under the cladding. It would be very time consuming/$$$ to have someone weld them shut. However, aluminum tape over the holes and bedliner would be easy and cost effective. @1loudLX (from like 10 years ago)...

Hey homey!!

Thanks for your input. I think we'll be able to make 37's work no problem, without any mods, but was hoping to go 38 to start.

FYI: it's getting converted to SAS

Left mine on, till the trail has her way, someday. Could always plastidip it and live with it for awhile. I just embrace the commitment issues.

Very nice compilation Bardiya! Thanks!

Sorry for the dumb question, but what are you referring to as cladding?

Here's what you would need to contend with....

it's the plastic moulding that lines the bottom foot or so of the rig from the fender back to the rear

i shoulda got a LC ;-)

Brian, it would be nice if we could find the front fender pieces from a truck that didn't have the running boards. Those are the biggest problem.

I like the look of a completely stripped body, but as hoser said, there are a lot of holes.

Running boards just come off and reveal the normal fenders... on either make. The LX fenders will have those holes down lower, but the LC fender would only have the holes in the body line. You can even find LC front fenders on ebay for pretty cheap that don't have the holes at all.

Of course, you'd still have the doors, rockers, and quarter panels to deal with.

How about we take the cladding off the fender and see if we can fill those three holes with a little welding and body filler?

My LX is black, and I think I'm just going to paint the cladding black. Much easier than removing it, and dealing with the aftermath.

Black would look pretty decent with the lower half painted with bed liner.

Awesome!

First, a 100 with the side-swinging ("ambulance") tailgate.
Then, a Qatari 100 with very interesting tires (must get great MPG)
Followed by double sheepskin seating and finally: the 100 with a 4.5.... so an FZJ-100.....
All of the pics are fzj's
The tyres are very common in the GCC.
-Very rough when they're cold or at speed.
-No grip when they're hot.
-You'll go on two wheels when you turn hard.
-Forget about it in the rain.
-They love to explode and are commonly aired up to 60-100+ psi. I've seen some explode while still (on a 100 series btw)
-I believe they are not radial but unsure of this.
-They will mess up your alignment so you'll need one every few months.

On the bright side it is amazing on sand.
They float vs digging into the sand.

On a side note: I finally discovered the mystery rattle on my LX470.....the lower cladding on the rear passenger door is loose. It appears the "clips" have lost their "clippiness" and now just barely hold the cladding in place. Need to figure out how to fix....either get new clips or rig it so they stay in their correct place.

I don't have a pic at the moment, but there is the lower rear corner of the front fender that ties into the step. It appears that when the step is removed, there will still be a sizable chunk left behind.
