Nah, the truck was repainted two years ago... and it's starting to rust already...

Mine came with one of those stubby rubber antennas. I know they are cheap and indestructible. Yo can get them at the boat shops.:D

$8.99---NAPA

Black and spring bottom, extends super high when needed

;)

X (imagine the infinity symbol).

Napa part #: BK 7304857

Black, not chrome. Best $8.99 you'lll ever spend. Underpriced. When does that ever happen? Go there, go there now. Buy two. One for the truck, one for you to use as a toy.

Did I mention that I like the antenna?

Lowest position is just a hair above the roof line.
Second tier is plenty high.
The third tier, well, let's just say don't stand near it during an electrical storm. :D
Radio reception has been great from levels one and two. Not sure I'll ever need the third tier, but hey, ya never know.

Rubber duckie antennas are great no more broken shafts by trees or pesky kids in the hood.

Dynosoar
NICE

i alwasy seem to forget to lower it
i go through many antennas in fact i just cut the wire by wiper fluid and splice the new ones in and use duct tape so its faster:doh:

Love my NAPA cheap antenna! :D I fly it high and proud... it looks damn good on there.

Because of this thread, I just called up my local Napa store and ordered one of these antennas. Maybe some other folks from here got the same idea and they're sold out? (BTW: Thanks a lot guys, find more ways for me to spend money on this truck)! ;p

Not that there's anything wrong with my stock antenna, but I'm hoping that when it's extended to its full height, it might pull in a few more radio stations or improve reception on mediocre ones. The guy at Napa said it extends to 54 inches!!!

I was looking at The general electric ones that NAPA has. They are only $50.00
a third of the OEM ones. has anyone installed one of these? will it fit? any extra fabing?

I put one in, don't notice any better reception than before, even completely up.....but it was cheap, 8.99 in Carson City Nevada, easy to install and looks really good!!

I put in an electric one from Checker. Was like $50 and it's hooked into a switch so I can drop it with the radio on if needed. I can't remember if if goes up when the cd player is on or not but having the switch is kinda nice I guess.

I was inspired by this thread to head down to the local Napa store and get myself one of the $8.99 specials. I like the way the black color looks. Goes well with my new windshield (no chrome strip).

But, in process of installation, I have a stupid question - the Napa one comes with a long wire lead with an adapter on it. The wire on the existing antenna runs into the firewall - I haven't yet tried to trace where it goes on the other side.

So, question: Did you guys go to the trouble of pulling the old wire and running the new one through the firewall, or did you just do the easy snip both wires and reconnect?

Thanks.

Run the new one through the firewall and plug it into the wire coming out of your stereo. Done and done.

Another satisfied NAPA customer!

Looks like I am going to head over to Napa tomorrow. I have one of the stubby black ones and I think it looks horrible.

Anywhere wires are spliced, it creates the potential for a problem. It's been said that 90% of electrical problems occur at connections. So, using that logic, eliminating a connection should cut down the risk of a problem by 90%. Sure it's a bit more work to feed the wire through the firewall and pull the radio out to properly plug it into the unit, but it's worth the effort. I don't fancy the thought of pulling a DIN radio (quite often I mess up the spring clips) so it may be worth going to a car stereo shop and giving the guy $10 or $20 cash to pull the radio for you. You can get everything else ready like remove the old antenna, cut the cable, install the new antenna and run the cable up to the firewall before going to the stereo shop.

Pulling the old cable and running the new is not that bad. I was able to reach up and unplug the old one from my radio. (You should be able to see it from the pass side floor.) Pull it thru the firewall. Then run the new one back thru firewall and up to radio. Shouldn't have to remove radio.

my .02

plus antennae wire is usually like bnc (your cable for tv) with ground/shielding around the outside single wire down center...not a wire nut/ crimp splice job.

.02 + .02= .05
