So i just finished repacking my muffler bearings and now have moved to the antenna mast bearings. I don't have my FSM with me and can't remember off the top of my head, but what is the preload for the bearings in the antenna mast? I was thinking its 25.8 in./lbs but i'm not sure. I just would hate to mess up my catalytic capacitor. ;p I think dan says they list for $789.

My antenna is a bit loose fore-aft. Does this mean my antenna mast bearings need to be packed? I didn't see this covered in the FAQ.

Can I use my extra Muffler Bearing Hi Temp Synthetic Lube to repack them?

Trust me this is one thing that you want to stick with OEM on....don't be fooled by the hype the aftermarket bearings are worthless and will cause clicking and premature wear and failure of other related components.

Beno, i don't think this is a place to cut corners. Synthetic for me!

Also thought i would add, i am seeing a 4 mpg increase since repacking the muffler bearings. Hopefully i can see another 1-2 after the antenna mast repack.

DO A SEARCH!!! I believe LxTreme has sourced JDM mast bearings that offer better road manners and aerodynamics with an eye on curb appeal.

I did do a search, i just forgot to use LX as the author

Mine still goes up and dowm but clicks a lot. I haven't worried about it too much. You don't think by letting it go I'll hurt anything do you? I'd hate to have to rebuild my engine over something like this.

Fixed it for you ;)

Can anyone tell me if repacking my bearings will allow me to fit 35" tires?

Wow, that's ironic... mine blew just a couple of weeks ago. A gal pulls up next to me at a red light driving this red convertible, top down... she was looking fine. So anyways, she looked over and smiled, so I smoothly slide my hand over to work the antenna mast up and down buttons, you know... to send a subliminal message. I gave her a little wink and a grin and the obligatory "oh yeh, you like that action don't ya" head nod. All of a sudden, my antenna bearings seize up, the motor explodes and the antenna falls out onto the ground! Sheww... talk about embarrassing. So I learned my lesson. Installed new motor, bearings and mast last weekend, and I'm ready to hit the strip and do some cruisin this weekend.... ohh yea.

Only a dumbass rookie dough-head would use muffler brg grease in an antenna.

I buy the stuff from Avon that has the fresh-scent....................:o :whoops:

NEVER MIND.....................:flipoff2:

i took mine the mr T and he quoted $2500.00 to repack the bearings and realign the mast for me. geez... to many bananas for me. guess ill be going without...

Did Mr T pity you as he gave you the estimate? I mean, he's gotta finish makin payments on all that gold he bought in the 80s when clubber was king....

I used whale oil grease formed by a stabilized clay matrix on mine, it is a rare spot to find a use for such an old lube but it works great here, I pull in Denver AM stations now, FM from Knoxville, OEM bearings from CDan of course.
