Thinking it may be time to get rid of the wifes minivan. Taking it Thursday to be looked at but pretty sure it needs a new power steering pump. At least one warped rotor up front and probably needs new ones in the rear. Could stand a good tune up as well. Crossed over 160k and the last one I had died at 200k transmission wise.

Anyways what do you recommend. Would love a Toyota but I can only spend 10k ish and I want to move into a suv. Want to be able to tow the boat with it. Suggestions?

First generation Sequoia, or used Suburban. I really like the first and second gen Sequoias, but the Suburbans have more room behind the third row for storage and they have walk through captains chairs in the second row.

You can find both of these in good shape around $10000.

My biggest concern is mileage. Been looking at suburbans but most in my price range have just as many miles as the van.

Yeah, I hear you. The Suburbans seem hit or miss. I hear stories with 300000 miles and no issues, then I hear about transmissions going out at 40000 miles.

My vote would be for a Sequoia. As much as I love 'Murca, I'm not a fan of high mileage domestic vehicles.

I had a 4th gen 2wd V8 4runner that was great for towing. My dad bought it from me about 3 years ago and he is about to sell it. You could probably get one with 150K miles on it for that price, but those engines are bulletproof.

Gabe's chirrrrruns ain't fitting in a four runner.

Yep four kiddos!

look for a trans cooler on anytthing with a tow package...Auto transmissions will last forever if they are kept cool and the fluid is kept in good shape and full.

Well they flushed the power steering pump. Seems to be better. Turned front rotors as well. Jen wants me to wait and pay off the 40 first then buy her something. What she doesn't understand is that it.will never be paid off!

Yep four kiddos!

We use a 3rd gen for a DD and have 4 kids. It's doable, but not optimal. I find it hilarious when people look at going 80 series from a 3rd gen 4runner, not much more space.

My vote would be full sized van or suburban. Never been in a Seq but only like the 1st gen ones as a possibility. If you shop around you should be able to find a nice burban for $10K. 100 series is in that range too but maint costs and upkeep may be more, although probably not much more than the Dodge minivan.
This is considering you arent interested in another minivan.

And now the transmission is slipping.
