So considering purchasing one of low profile bumpers and is more inclined towards CBI one because Victory is PITA in terms of install (it messes with harnesses, ultrasonic sensors, etc) vs CBI, where it is just cut plastic - done.
Though one major flaw of CBI bumper is - potential to kill engine via hydrolock.
This guy () made a viper cut and water got through it to intake and further to the engine.
So what is the problem with CBI? If you will look at a picture below, in highlighted area it is clearly visible same gap as in 4Runner viper cut - so potentially hydrolocked engine.
OEM GX 460 bumper has splash guard there.
Question - did anyone with CBI bumper figure out how to cover highlighted area? Welded metal sheet? Plastic sheet somehow attached? Etc?

Could you add a snorkel instead?

All of the hydrolocked GXs I see are because people pulled all the fender liners out to fit bigger tires. Is it possible the 4Runner redditor did the same and did not diagnose his root cause properly?

Does the CBI not require removing the front bumper? I would think both require removing it to get to the center mounts on the frame horns, which means both require unplugging all the various things.

No, I want my vehicle functional and looking subtle and not tacticool (It's my daily), otherwise I'd select full strike bumper.
A hydrolocked vehicle is not very functional :).

In all seriousness I don't have a snorkel but do want one due to all of the creeks around here. Hydrolocking seems to be the number one killer of GXs and 4Runners. I do agree that very few of them look good at all, which is a shame.

In looking at that picture, it does 100% appear that they sliced out the front of the inner fender. Assuming they did the same on the passenger side, that would allow a high-speed, low-depth pool to spray water right up into the air intake on top of the remaining portion of the fender liner. Only way to fix that would be to re-make a fender liner or add a snorkel. I hit those puddles fast in my rig all the time - with the OEM bumper and liners, and get almost no water in the engine bay.

I don't think this would make much of a difference at all in actual low-speed creek forcing.

They both require, however Victory also messes with electrical harness which I want to avoid.
CBI is pure mechanical swap.

I cross creeks pretty rarely (and ones which I do are not very deep) but when I will install bumper I want some protection for peace of mind (diff breather will probably be next thing).
Great finding about slicing of their front fender liner - perhaps they indeed did high-speed crossing and scooped the water.

This is exactly what I am asking! :)

So far I figured out I can cut sheet of metal and bolt it on to existing rail in the bumper and to the remaining fender itself but before inventing the wheel I'm curious if anyone did similar thing already.

The Victory is a solid plate on the bottom and you can reattached the front of the fender liner to the back of it, so it should be at least as protected against water as the stock bumper, if not more.

For the CBI, it looks like you can probably pull the front of the fender liner up to the back of the bumper and attach with screws or zipties. I don't know for sure. Both bumpers have a less aggressive side cut that that 4Runner viper cut. I think his problem was that he just hacked out the front end and made a big funnel shaped hole with the bumper and remaining fender liner. Don't do that and it's probably fine.

If you are more worried and don't want a snorkel hanging off the fender, you can always do the internal snorkel where you extend the intake tube further back and up in the fender towards the cowl.

Yeah, advantage of Victory is bottom coverage.

This is also good idea, do not cut the fender, but extend it and attach.

Also today I learned about internal snorkel, going to read about these, thank you!

I've taken all the liners off my front fenders, but I also have a snorkel.
Been fine for the past 5 years, through rain and snow and about everything else.
But I here you, you want do keep it kind of stealth and low key.

Exactly, once my build will proceed a bit further I'll make a post (I made a few kind interesting choices which might interest other people).
Examples are - invisible radio (hidden HAM antenna, hidden mobile radio with bluetooth microphone integrated with Android Auto) or black (not colored) suspension lift so it looks like oem :)

Sorry, just saw this topic. Moving the harness and the parking sensors isn't really that big of a deal, but we understand the position of not wanting to touch them. We just felt it was worth it for the additional features and protection. Plus, we love the way a taller bumper helps shorten the grille and changes the proportions of the GX's front end.

If we can answer any questions on the specific install, let us know.

Thanks folks, yeah, I've read few stories where these sonic sensors went off after relocation (considering curvature of my hands, I'll end up here most likely), also I've seen video addon (by the way thanks for honesty) on your channel that for last few years (22 or 21+, I don't remember) Lexus has made changes to the sonic sensors gasket and now installing it is more PITA.

FWIW turning the parking sensors off is not a big deal and if you do tap something in a parking lot, your bumper is metal so who cares?

The times we have seen issues with the sensors, they either needed to be rotated to the factory clocking, or sat out slightly proud of the grommet. That's me in the gasket add-on video. Yeah, it takes a couple more min for the install on those.

Not trying to convince or pressure you BTW, just want to make sure the install is clear for those reading this post.

I mostly concerned about water damage to sensors.
I also not concerned about tapping but more about false positive yelling inside the car caused by broken sensor.

Thank you for clarification, I do not feel any pressure at all (and I see awesome customers support here btw!)
I did not dedice on a bumper yet (I will wait until black friday for order and install by summer of 2025)

i have a victory and did not mess with the factory harness.... not sure where you are getting that. I am glad i went victory... no regrets

With the cbi, you cut the bumper when it’s still attached.
