I am looking to purchase a rooftop cargo carrier box to go on top of my Victory 4x4 roof rack and expand cargo capacity for longer trips (and moving kids back and forth from college).

Looking at Thule and Yakima among other boxes, and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations, pros/cons, any worries about mounting on the rack. My assumption is most will easily mount to the standard Victory crossbars.

Correct, they will mount with no issues. Actually, it's easier with an after market rack since the cross bars are not "bowed" or "arc" across, so you can scoot the cargo box to either side of the rack without it leaning.
Unless you really want "new" and plan on using it quite often, you can pick these up for a lot less than new. When you're not using it, you'll want to take it off so your GX will fit in garages, both your own and parking garages and car washes. Also, it'll take at least 1 or 2 MPG or more off your mileage.
They are pretty light and you should have no problem putting on and off yourself.

I use a Thule 614 Pulse on my Gamiviti rack. That model has lots of adjustment available for bar position and style. Mostly quiet under 70mph.

Going to second the find one used sentiment - I run an older Thule ski box I found on Marketplace and it was something like $200. It's a half width box, but I'm sure you can find what you need used. I've also found that the older boxes tend to have flat floors instead of the contouring required for aero style bars that most cars now use. For an extrusion rack, that's better because you can drill holes wherever you need to bolt it down. I use the 4 factory mount holes + some additional I added for stability.

I've had an older Yakima Rocket Box for at least a decade or so. I think it was around $450 at REI when we got it. It's been down to the Gulf several times and I had it on the rig to CO and back last summer, including doing some heavy wheeling with it. It's a nice box overall and it was super-handy to use, as my buddy who rode with me put all of his stuff in the box, instead of it mixing with mine. We've never really noticed a significant MPG reduction or wind noise from it either.

Once nice thing about it is that since it's basically a half-width box, the other side of the rig is still open for a bike rack, awning, etc.

The Yakima stuff seems to be cheaper than Thule but, IMO, holds up just fine for occasional use like ours.

I've modified an older Thule box for use with my Victory 4x4 rack. I bolted aluminum 2x2 angle to the box, then bolt the angles to the rack cross bars. That way all the hardware is easily accessed and there is no concern of the cargo box feet making contact with the roof if you are loaded heavy.

Would you mind posting a picture of that if you have one? I have a newer Thule box with the contoured bottom, and it appears to me that it would be difficult to mount to a flat platform rack due to the box's mounting 'claws' not being able to grab onto rack cross bars. Thanks.

went with yakima because I liked their locking latch better than thule.... try to find a box with a flat bottom not stepped.
