Looking for a new set of AT tires for my 100 series, truck is mainly a daily road driver, looking for good ride, quiet, excellent wet road, snow and ice traction... let's hear some opinions.
 
I was looking for some more specific info as to the type of driving I do.
 
Yep, x2 on the LTX for your uses.
 
LTX. Fabulous for for inclement weather conditions on road. Venture offroad and you'll get stuck in wet grass clippings, your neighbors pinestraw, or some moist dirt that's commonly referred to as mud.
 
I looked at the LTXs and had them on a Jeep cherokee a few years back, nice ride and long lasting but felt the wet weather traction was not that great due to the hard tread compound. I have Geolanders on it now and liked the grip and ride of the tire overall, sidewalls seem a bit soft and squishy but they did not wear well. I'm considering the following:
1 Nitto T-Gs
2 Toyo O-C
3 Revo 2s
4 Mich LTX ATs
With that said I have always run BFG ATs on my trucks and like the tires performance but I feel the may be too stiff on the 100 and change the ride?
 
Lots of people running BFG AT's, Nittos (Terra and Trail Grappler varieties), and a few with the Revo IIs. All seem to be happy with their purchase. The ride with most E rated tires doesn't change too much with 100s - they are heavy and stout, so a beefy tire is right at home under the weight of these things.

Here is my take on the BFG AT and the Nitto Terra Grappler (first hand knowledge of the Nittos, second hand knowledge on the BFG from a close family member):

BFGs are great off road tires - IF you don't go venturing into mud, deep snow, or heavy rain. They grip well in rocks and dry, loose soil, and the compound is one of the longest-wearing of the bunch (they last for frickin ever, even on heavy diesel trucks), but the tread design is very old tech. They don't clean out well, they don't shed water well, and the interlocking tread design can hyrdoplane easily if you aren't paying attention.

Nitto Terra Grapplers are also great off road tires. Much newer tread design that does worlds better in rain and snow, and pretty well on ice if you keep out of the skinny pedal and let them work. Mud still loads them up, but since the tread blocks don't interlock like the BFGs you can give them a spin and they clean out ok. Not great, but ok for an AT tire. The tread compound doesn't have the longevity that the BFG's have, but at 20k on the ones I had on my Yukon when I sold it, they barely looked worn. I think 50k out of those would have been well within their limits. Much longer than that and tires start drying out and cracking anyway, so extra longevity beyond that point doesn't matter much to me.

No experience with the Toyo ATs or Revos. The new LTX AT2's look VERY impressive in person, but surprisingly the reviews aren't all that great on them from people at discount tire, but they seem well recieved at tirerack. Don't know much about them beyond that.

Tires that have done well in just about everything I've thrown at them are the Goodyear Duratracs. They are awesome. A little soft-wearing and just a touch noiser than most, but they grab in just about every condition - even mud. Might want to check them out.

Thanks for the info, I did look at Duratracs, nice looking tire but I thought it may be a bit too aggresive for what I use the 100 for. Mostly need good snow traction for winter road driving and our camp upnorth with a long uphill driveway. My experience so far with my LC 100 is it's hard on tires and rotating is important but something I don't do as often as I should so wear is a concerne with the Nittos and Revos.
 
Do you even need an AT tire? All-season tires may be what you're looking for.

Definetly want a AT with a more agressive tread just not a tread style like a mud terrain, dont want a wimpy street tread and thats why I'm not sold on the LTX looks a little to streety for me but have not seen them in person.
 
Just pick up some 33" rims - no need for tires...
 
I have had both the BFG AT KO's and the Nitto Terra Grappler At's. Both would be great for your uses as mostly road driving. Both are quiet, performed well in the snow andprovide great traction offroad. The BFG AT's last for ever

I have not tried the Toyo OC AT's. I have the Toyo OC MT's and love them. I am told that the AT's have the same sidewall as the MT's which provides stronger sidewall protection. However, this is only an issue for more aggressive off roading

I have no experiance with the Revo's or Micheliens
 
BFGs ATs have always been my first choice, I like the looks of them on a 100 and the tread life. But I know they are a old school tire... may look at some hankooks

So you're basically wanting the "looks" of an AT tire with AS performance, correct? Because from your first post, you want "... a daily road driver, looking for good ride, quiet..." and general good on-road performance. Nothing wrong with that, but you'll be compromising some of those things with an AT tread. I'd say something like REVO would be the best compromise between the two. The set I had were good on-road compared to BFG and NTG's.

Well I guess I'm trying to find the best AT with good road performance too... I had Revos on a Cherokee and thought it too was a great all around tire but was disapointed with the wear and that's a light truck... I think the 100 will chew thru them quicker. I have Geolanders on the 100 now, I like the performance of them on the road and they do well in wet weather and snow but just don't seem to last long. The 100 is heavy and I feel it needs a tire with a stronger sidewall under it, the Yokos feel squishy thats why I'm considering the BFG ATs. You guys that run BFGs ATs did you notice a loss of ride quality on the road and were sorry you went with them? Thats what happened to me on my Cherokee after I ran BFGs ATs the truck rode much stiffer and I could feel every crack in the road.
 
I have had BFG' ATs on two different 80's a 3rd gen 4runner and 4th gen 4runner. I never noticed the ride problem you mentioned. Sounds more like a shock problem then tire.

My two daughters (80 series LC & 3rd gen 4rnr) still have the BFG's and wheel with them in Colorado, Moab , South Dakota, etc

My wifes 4th gen 4rnr is a city vehicle and will never see dirt. I put them on her car as she got stuck in the snow before hand with the stock radials.

This made me LOL a bit.
 
Going from P-rated to LT tire, you will notice a bit more stiffness in the ride. I run 265/75/16's currently on the 100 and from the last tire (I think it was Michelin HT's), it was noticeably stiffer. Not bone-jarring, but when going over bumps and whatnot, you can feel it. Still super comfy, though. Again, if you're looking for stiffer/stronger sidewalls, you will compromise the ride quality (albeit a minimal amount). My current BFG KO's are due for a change after 60k miles (still another 10k left). I'd go with the BFG's in a heartbeat again, but they dropped the Load Range D for 265/75/16's.
