I've been using the M1-209 and M1 for all of my recent changes. Seems to work. Readily available.

Christo,

Do you know if that was the old filters they recommended NOT BE USED on the Toyotas a few years ago and just replaced with an entirely new design last year? I know on the original filters there was a problem with some engines causing sludge issues that would clog the filter earlier than expected and inhibit the bypass valve operating properly if the owner was following an extended drain interval. I would be very interested if you knew whether it was the original filters the owners were using...or the newer redesigned filters.

It is possible, however none of these cases was after a long interval. Both cases were pretty new filters. I know that they issued a notice after this happened not to use on the Land Cruiser.

Reason I ask is I have been using their filters on all my Toyotas for many years without a problem...but when they sent out the notice to NOT USE the original filters I had on my FJC....I stopped immediately and poked a hole in all I had remaining and threw them away.

It might have been specific to the 1FZFE oil routing. What happened is when the oil pressure spiked, the oil pressure bypass safety popped and then you had no oil pressure.

I would not have any qualms about using AMSOIL filters still...and as proven if something does happen they will stand behind products and make vehicle right.
Except the motors they supplied were really low cost rebuilds with aftermarket parts. One of them subsequently blew a head gasket and the engine builder would not cover it.

here is the original TSB in case anyone still has those old filters around that were discontinued in June 2009 due to this problem.

The correct one for our trucks are as follow:

1FZ and 2UZ motors- AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters (EaO, Ea15K)

I know I found guys still using the discontinued filters as they had a bunch in stock thinking it was no big deal...but if AMSOIL discontinues and sends out a notice then you can rest assured they had good reason. The TSB pretty much tells it all...

These cases were early 2010, so could have been old stock. However our cases were not related to clogged filters.

Christo, I have a ? concerning air filters'. Do you have any opinion on K&N air filters?

Not trying to speak for Christo, but read post #16 last sentence and you get your answer.

I agree with him 100%. No aftermarket company is going to know the vehicle design and performance better than Toyota for all things related to reliability and maintenance.

If you stick with Mr. T parts, you can never go wrong.

Oil filter question
I recently purchased some Toyota oil filters PN 90915-YZZD3 they were less than 5.00 each. They don't have the TEQ sticker, they do have a small Toyota sticker. Made in Thailand, first question are these the correct filter for my 100, perhaps I ordered the wrong PN.

Second, Q am I mistaken about the TEQ on my last batch? they were for the 80. Price seems to good, am I looking for problems where none exist?

They will work fine.

The ones that end in 20004 are the Denso made in Japan factory ones, however. Beno should be your go-to source as a case of 10 is just over $85 IIRC.

Thank You, The ones I ordered are 4.05 per, I was trying to fill a medium flat rate box so I have quite a few of them.

Just wanted to confirm the P/N before having a issue during oil change.

Toyota oil filters have a check valve to make sure oil is available on start-up and a larger surface area than most. A parts guy at the dealer told me about the check valve years ago, I've not verified this check valve statement.

That said; I use EP M1 synthetic oil filters just because they are free with 5 qts of MI oil. They've seemed ok over last 30k miles, but I change every 3 to 5K miles not the 15K it's rated for along with EP MI oil. I always used Toyota filters before these free MI's and have not notice any difference on start-up sounds, mpg, oil appearance or anything else.

Can you provide a reference?

90915-20004 filters are available through CDan or myself.

You will also need 90430-12031 drain plug gasket.

With discount, out the door for about $10.

Do you still have these filters in stock? If so how would I go about purchasing some?

I'm aware of how the PM system here works. After bumping this thread I also PM'ed Beno and quickly received an answer to my question.

The reason I bumped this and asked what I did is so my fellow Toyotans can learn about this awesome oil filter.

:wrench:

Fyi- these filters are now made in Thailand and feel completely down graded from the kick ass Japan filters we were getting before.
