Hello everyone!

I am the proud new owner of a beautiful 89 FJ62! Have always admired FJ's, and seriously considered purchasing one way back in 1988. Well after all these years, the truck makes sense for me again. I needed a utility vehicle. I gave my Chevy PU to my son a couple of years ago, and it's time to do some chores around the house again. Hard to transport home depot stuff in my fleet of small cars! I also get out in the Sierras every summer, and was limited by my lack of 4WD.

I've been lurking for the past couple of months while I've been shopping, so now that I've landed the one for me, I'll be asking some basic questions while I familiarize myself with the vehicle. I did just order the Factory Service Manual as was recommended by several members.

The truck is very clean. I think there's two (count em!) dings. You can see them only if you look carefully! It looks like all original paint. The truck was donated to a charity and auctioned, I bought it from the "flipper", so I don't know much about it. According to the carfax, it's spent its whole life in San Diego. Title was only transferred once. I suspect that it lived a charmed, garaged, suburban life, and seldom if ever went off road. It appears that it wasn't driven much for the last two year, and thus was the reason it was donated. It's got 193k, but runs strong, shifts quickly and crisply, and tracks straight. It's got some tappet clacking, so the first order of business aside from complete fluid changes is to adjust the valves. It can use a new tailpipe as well. I'll get to know it a little better this weekend.

I'm excited to be a member of this forum and look forward to getting some good advice and info from you all!

Thanks to everyone for the welcome.

I'm responding to vipergrhd, because of his recommendation to "get it dirty". I spent all weekend detailing it and cleaning it up. It is now shamefully clean. This truck is such a cream puff. I couldn't resist giving it a coat of wax, it shined up nicely!

It won't stay clean for too long. My 22 year old will be home for spring break shortly, and he's already talking about taking it on a "road trip" (whatever that means).

I changed the oil, next weekend I'll do the trans, diffs and transfer case, and adjust the valves.

I put 8 quarts of oil with a new filter, and it looks like it's almost a quart over the full line. What's up with that? The glove box manual says it takes 8.2 quarts!

nice rig. you'll become addicted to this site. it's incredible how much and how quickly you can learn about the FJ on here.

did you have it parked on a funny angle? did you change the filter? i'm pretty sure the amount of oil needed is different depending on whether you change the filter or not.

but hey nice rig it looks super clean:eek:

I see now that the 3FE takes 7.8 quarts. Still seems like 8 shouldn't have put it that far over the line, especially since the Fram PH8A is bigger than the toyota filter that it replaced. It was parked on level ground in the garage.

The site is great, I've already looked through the stickies and have the info I need to change the oil in the diffs and trans.

Welcome! Enjoy the obsession! That is one super clean champagne-colored FJ62 you have there. It looks like the twin to mine. I enjoy browsing here on MUD almost as much as I enjoy driving my '62.

I need to order one, where did you get it at?
Thanks Bill

I wanted it badly, so I just went to the dealer. 3 day turnaround. Just picked it up an hour ago! $100
