Hello everyone!
I am the proud new owner of a beautiful 89 FJ62! Have always admired FJ's, and seriously considered purchasing one way back in 1988. Well after all these years, the truck makes sense for me again. I needed a utility vehicle. I gave my Chevy PU to my son a couple of years ago, and it's time to do some chores around the house again. Hard to transport home depot stuff in my fleet of small cars! I also get out in the Sierras every summer, and was limited by my lack of 4WD.
I've been lurking for the past couple of months while I've been shopping, so now that I've landed the one for me, I'll be asking some basic questions while I familiarize myself with the vehicle. I did just order the Factory Service Manual as was recommended by several members.
The truck is very clean. I think there's two (count em!) dings. You can see them only if you look carefully! It looks like all original paint. The truck was donated to a charity and auctioned, I bought it from the "flipper", so I don't know much about it. According to the carfax, it's spent its whole life in San Diego. Title was only transferred once. I suspect that it lived a charmed, garaged, suburban life, and seldom if ever went off road. It appears that it wasn't driven much for the last two year, and thus was the reason it was donated. It's got 193k, but runs strong, shifts quickly and crisply, and tracks straight. It's got some tappet clacking, so the first order of business aside from complete fluid changes is to adjust the valves. It can use a new tailpipe as well. I'll get to know it a little better this weekend.
I'm excited to be a member of this forum and look forward to getting some good advice and info from you all!
John
