Much more progress....

For those of you who have followed this thread from day 1, my deepest simpathies ! I sure didn't expect it would take this long, or be this much fun, but I guess the finish line is now in sight !

Robbie/PowderPig is expected at my place in a week or two so today I had to bite the bullet and pull the 'old' engine. Of course, I picked a weekend of rain in Norcal, something we don't usually see, but a friends Easy-Up that I've been 'storing' forever came in real handy.

Gilbertto, my Nicaraguan buddy who loves wrenching almost as much as me, and I started at 08:28 and finished a hair before 19:00.

Almost everything went as expected but some lessons I learned :-

Pull ALL of the radiators and coolers. It makes removing the 'lump' a lot easier ! I thought I could clear the AC cooler and trans cooler when removing the engine but it just made our lives more difficult !

I thought I was going to seperate the engine from the trans and just pull the engine. Robbie told me how to so it but at the end of the day, it proved easier removing the trans and engine together.

Tomorrow G and I will seperate the engine and trans. I have some wierd leaks on the transmission so it was probably good that it was pulled.

BTW, engine is for sale ! I'll try and sell it as a complete unit before I part it out. If anyone's looking for a 'gently used' '93 FZJ80 with about 300K plus on it, give me a call.

Pics from today will show the fun and progress !

More of the same...

Picked a good day to work indoors since the heavens really opened and it would have been a bad day for outdoor work !

G and I seperated the engine and transmission. Pretty easy task. Trans and TQ looks in great shape altho' the wire harness is very beat up and the plastic stuff that covers it is brittle and breaks right off. I'm going to have to go over the entire harness, engine and trans, an re-wrap all of the wire bundles.

I was also surprised how good the PHH looked after this many miles. Thought I would find it in worse shape but it still looks good.

I did see the tell-tale signs of the HG going bad around # 6 which I had suspected. Not sure how long it would have lasted but it is on it's way out.

Rest of the lump looks kinda good and no other major wear signs !

Anyway, pics will show today's fun and enjoyment.

A new Yota Yard in town ?

Wife says front of the house starting to look like a Toyota Recycle Centre: one engine and two transmissions adorn the front door !

These pics are total tits!! I mean really....Jonathan, you must've married a good one for her to "allow" a 442F and a 1FZ just "sit" on the front stoop!

Does she have any sisters whom don't mind more engine parts around the house?

So is my HF2AV ready to go yet?

:)

Beno,

I try not to give her the choice...

If Lisa wants to put up with me, she got to put up with my machinery... wherever it lands !! ;)

T case is ready whenever you need it !

Looking at that engine sitting up on jack stands gives me the heebie jeebies. It is just farther to fall if something happens, like an earthquake (it is the bay area) or a 6 year old comes up and starts pushing on it.

Put that thing down on the ground where it belongs and brace it or tie it up so it doesn't fall and hurt someone.

Looking good dude. Forgive the dumb question but why can't you reassemble everything and just be done with it? You seem to have done a great job of taking everything apart so far and it's obvious you have the skill set.

Yes, you are correct ! That was not my finest piece of thinking or handy-work. It will be relocated to the 'ground floor' just as soon as I can !

I appreciate the compliment !

After spending as much time and money as I have on this rebuild, I want to make 1000 % sure that's it's right. Having Robbie/PowderPig standing next to me 'helping me along' I feel is cheap insurance and well worth the expense !

Understood and a good plan indeed!
