G, another reason I have loved RF speakers and accessories for over 20 years.. I can't say enough good things about them.. Anyhow, I have the lower end RF speakers... they are crystal clear and cranked all the way up---- no distortion.

Here's the nutshell tweeter pulled apart for your viewing pleasure. Ran the wire down the headliner stripping.

thanks for that Reevsci! Much appreciated. I will have to keep this in mind when I go about replacing the stereo. What model speakers did you get? I remember back from my bass-head days that RF stuff was awesome, but that has been at least 15yrs and I haven't touched car audio since. Hell I have been riding my bike to work for 9 months now (12 miles a day) and for the 3yrs prior to that I walked to work, so a stereo you say? What the hell is that contraption!

I went to look at a local cruiser for sale last night and the woman wanted $1900 firm for a white 84 (think it was actually an 81 according to the placard in the engine bay) had rust through in the front and rear drivers side fender/quarters about the size of a dollar bill, and the same on the a couple of the corners of the drivers side door not to mention 256k. Pointed it out to her and she said "Yeah, I saw that when I bought it. Had a friend that was going to repair it for me but I just used some of that rust paint and called it good." She meant Rust-o-leum and she didnt even clean the areas, just painted directly over the rust. Then on top of that there were so many oil leaks coming from the engine I couldn't see where one started and the other ended. She said "Yeah I had that looked at by an old merchant marine friend and he said it was fine. Nothing major." After taking it for a drive, trying to listen and find where the damn vacuum leak was coming from, cracked dash, dirty ass interior, flat springs, leaking knuckles I just couldnt take it anymore and said I couldnt do that price. She then told me she was "firm"....LOL

If the body were in better shape and there weren't so many leaks to chase then the price might not have been bad. Oh well though, the search continues!

J- i cant remember where exactly your posts about window felt are, so I'll just ask. Dis you replace the inside felt? Are you using the top portions of the door panels or leaving the painted metal exposed? If so, felt solution for that setup?
Thx!

Finny, post #287. I plan on leaving the paint exposed. The new inner felts are chrome so I will be working on those . They don't make a black inner go figure:crybaby:

Yeah that truck was ROUGH... however I happened to find a really nice one in Utah that I am hoping to put a deposit down on today! Wish me luck boys!

Funny, was looking at these yesterday and thought they looked real good! Looks like I was on the right track after all.

G, that's them. I'm very pleased with the speakers.

I found a silver 1985-60 in Salt Lake for 1500.00, needs a little work but would be a quick turnaround. My daughter is thinking she wants one now....:p I prefer she have a 62 just because of the auto transmission. She just turned 16 so, we'll see what we find.

Guess to who!

And if you are looking there are actually 3 other 60s for sale on that KSL website. And she should learn how to drive manual as her first vehicle. No telling what might happen somewhere down the road and better she knows how then not. Seriously, my SIL almost died when she was a year old, parents lived out in BFE and the mom was the only one home. Mom didnt know how to drive a stick and SIL was choking. She didn't get more than a mile from the house before she dropped the clutch/tranny, luckily a trucker was driving by and was able to use his CB to get paramedics out there ASAP. Wouldn't have been an issue if she knew how to drive a manual.

My parents and my wife's step-dad and mom were very strict on the first car HAD to be a manual and we had to drive it for AT LEAST 2yrs before we could think about/ask for something else.

Have you had a chance to test the subs at all? I was about ready to get a couple 8s and build sealed enclosures behind a couple mdf panels to replace the side panels but I am curious now to see if it sounds alright in that space. I was going to run a couple 8s and then just put a 12 in the cargo area that I could remove if I needed the space but if 10s work I don't think I would bother with the twelve.

Update on the amp and woofers. I wired it all up and got it where it sounds really good. I am not going to mess with the volume of the airspace in the cargo area until the woofers relax. I like the sound and crispness of the bass at the moment and think I will keep it as is. Very happy with the complete sound system.

Got my OEM valve cover gasket, PCV valce, and grommet today. Also, got my new to me courtesy lamp door switches from Jason at CruiserYard..

So, I'll try and run the valves in the morning and get some dome light action going.

Well I hope to you.. That quarter panel rust will be an easy fix. Very little to deal with there. Curious to know how the 4wd is on it.

I've also got my eye on that FJ40 Aussie RHD...

Where are you at G? Maybe we can meet up with Finny at the end of next month down at Moab or ??

J

Reevesci - Where are you buying all/most of your parts from. I got a few things I am going to need to replace.

Yeah rust didn't look all the bad in the close-up he sent me. Other than that there isn't much that needs to be done, new speedo cable, possible knuckle rebuild on one side, small vacuum leak that is causing it to rev about 300rpms higher than normal, and maybe new brake booster. Said 4wd is fine and took it for a spin yesterday.

I am in Carson City, NV so I am going to be taking a trip out to get it. Not sure one when yet, need to work that out with the wife and find a quick cheap flight out there (only like $150). Then I will drive her home.

I started the day off by running the valves on Marley. Actually did it twice. Second time I could tell a difference. I don't think the engine was warm enough the first time around. Marley runs much better now and I can tell a substantial difference overall. I have emailed Jim C about rebuilding a carb for me. If I do an engine rebuild, I'll have a good carb ready to put back on.

Also, hooked up the modified air cleaner for the snorkel, replaced the vacuum lines, and took the dog for a ride.
