G, another reason I have loved RF speakers and accessories for over 20 years.. I can't say enough good things about them.. Anyhow, I have the lower end RF speakers... they are crystal clear and cranked all the way up---- no distortion.
Here's the nutshell tweeter pulled apart for your viewing pleasure. Ran the wire down the headliner stripping.

thanks for that Reevsci! Much appreciated. I will have to keep this in mind when I go about replacing the stereo. What model speakers did you get? I remember back from my bass-head days that RF stuff was awesome, but that has been at least 15yrs and I haven't touched car audio since. Hell I have been riding my bike to work for 9 months now (12 miles a day) and for the 3yrs prior to that I walked to work, so a stereo you say? What the hell is that contraption!
I went to look at a local cruiser for sale last night and the woman wanted $1900 firm for a white 84 (think it was actually an 81 according to the placard in the engine bay) had rust through in the front and rear drivers side fender/quarters about the size of a dollar bill, and the same on the a couple of the corners of the drivers side door not to mention 256k. Pointed it out to her and she said "Yeah, I saw that when I bought it. Had a friend that was going to repair it for me but I just used some of that rust paint and called it good." She meant Rust-o-leum and she didnt even clean the areas, just painted directly over the rust. Then on top of that there were so many oil leaks coming from the engine I couldn't see where one started and the other ended. She said "Yeah I had that looked at by an old merchant marine friend and he said it was fine. Nothing major." After taking it for a drive, trying to listen and find where the damn vacuum leak was coming from, cracked dash, dirty ass interior, flat springs, leaking knuckles I just couldnt take it anymore and said I couldnt do that price. She then told me she was "firm"....LOL
If the body were in better shape and there weren't so many leaks to chase then the price might not have been bad. Oh well though, the search continues!
