Hey all!
Guess what i did yesterday??!!

I was getting some oil out the front and some coolant out the intake side and running down the block, bubbles in the coolant yada yada.

So EBI hooked me up with genuine HG, intake and exhaust gaskets. $224 IIRC
Pre-cups from rooDogs, $170 shipped to the door.

Tore it down yesterday around noon, had her together today around 4pm, working casually, cleaning everything as I went.
The motor had a claimed 299K when I put it in, turbo'd it, and put another 10K on it. Ran like a top throughout, and just in the last 6-700kms it started showing HG issues.

As soon as I lifted it off the block, i noticed a rather large pile of scale/mineral deposit/? in between #3 and #4 on the exhaust side where the coolant port that goes nowhere is. Like a PILE of stuff. and scale in the piston and on the head as well. #1 and #2 squeaky clean. Hmmpf! i said.

The gasket looks either original, or the cheap aftermarket fiber with metal inserts variety. Precups all cracked almost all the way through. and cyl #1 has what looks like a hair crack in between the valves. Very small almost didnt notice it. all other cyl no cracks that i can see.

New precups fit so good, i almost thought it was too easy. dead flush with the head. I ported them a tad, they came with burrs and sharp edges all over.
ready to go after cleaning. got the block deck and head real clean, cleaned out the bolt holes. back on she goes. pics of the old gasket and precups tommorow.
Set the valves hot after I got her going, 1st time pretty easy.
How hard should it be to turn the engine over by hand, it wasnt easy, but not excessively difficult either. im a fairly large fellow and had lots of room for a 1/2 ratchet 12" long....
Anyways, flashed it up let it idle for 20 mins, went for a rip, no leaks. Happy times. temps and EGT seemed a little lower than before as well.

"I love it when a plan comes together"- cigar in teeth.

I was suprised at how smooth it went actually. Only hiccup was EBI gave me the wrong Intake gasket. Bolt pattern is different and runner holes are 2/3rds the size....B engine gasket? reused the old until i can get a new proper one.
