Yes, I am now lucky enough to call Alaska my home :p but...

Anybody out there have a good recommendation for a Toyota shop or Toyota person near Anchorage, AK? I understand it's pretty hard to get parts up here and Mud is completely blank on the subject of AK. I need some help with my suspension among other things. I no longer have a go to guy like I did down south.

Thanks,

-Brian

Not from there but congrats.. i hear alaska is BEAUTIFUL.. Feel free to bombard us with wheeling pics..

I lived in Alaska for 6 years..... 1 year in Kodiak, 3 years in Tok, and 2 years in Valdez. I didn't have the FJ40 then, I had a couple Early Broncos. Parts were almost impossible to find up there, so alot of my parts I had to get off the Internet. However NAPA was able to get me a few a simple things. As far as a local shop? Well I pretty much did my own work. You might want to try getting in touch with some of the local 4X4 and off road clubs. Here is a website that I have used in the past for contacts, parts, etc.
Alaska 4x4 Network - Powered by vBulletin

Good Luck!

I'm actually from BC, but i went up there last fall and it is AMAZING! Just hope that you don't miss swimming in lakes and toasty 100f heat, cause it won't deliver. I think there's a LC nut in Wasilla. I'm not sure if he's on here, or if he even works other people's 4runners. Anyone else know this guy?

Do not, I repeat Do not, I repeat Do not, use a guy name Dave (not me) in Eagle River, he claims to be a toyota guru. He is shady and does not do good work.

Don't ask me how I know. :bang:

You could PM Jomama-he lives in Anchorage and may be able to suggest a shop for you. If you're looking for used parts, I know there's a place in Anchorage that has a large inventory of Toyota truck parts. Can't remember the name though, maybe look around on Craigslist for them.

Drop me a line... Cruisers Only 373.3789

I am in Wasilla, about 40 miles out of Anchorage. The last year or so the shop has taken a back seat to other things, but it is priority again and things are getting back up to speed. Lots of jobs and projects lining up :)

As mentioned about, be very wary of "Dave" in Eagle River, and run like hell from "Dave" in Bear valley :)

They both sell a lot of parts... The rest of my comments I will save for private communications.

There is a shop in town that works primarily on Toy Trucks (I split between trucks and Cruisers). Drop me a note or give a call and I can fill you on him... pretty positive comments on him :)

If you talk to the dealer for anything, you want to talk to "JP"... John... in parts... He is "one of us"... tell him I sent you :)

Do not pay much attention to that link above for Cruisers Only... a friend made that for me, but I have never used it and there is not really any content there.

Take the stuff on Alaska4x4network with a grain of salt... a lot of kids and a lot of low experience there... some guys who do not fit that mold... but too many who do.

Mark...

amd if you end up in the river, Mark can come out and rescue you...

his avatar picture is him rescuing a cruiser out of the Knik River I believe...

Mark has helped out the cruiser community and I remember him from way back on the old Land Cruiser email list LCML during the mid '90s....If I needed work done I my truck, I'd be driving up to Wasilla.
