I picked up a lightly used (≈10k mile) CPO ’19 GX460 in December in preparation for a move from Texas to Alaska for work. As much as I loved my '06 GX470, I wanted something newer and lower mileage.

I went with the simplest GX I could find. No air suspension, no camera-based driving aids. I’m nowhere near a Lexus or Toyota dealership; I wanted to keep the build as rock solid and simple as possible.

Current Mod Summary

1. Magnaflow Overland Series Cat-Back Exhaust
2. Chrome Delete (Black Vinyl Wrap)
3. OPOR Sliders with LEDs wired into factory running board lighting
4. Ironman Premium Bumper
5. Baja Designs Squadron Amber Fogs

Next mods:

Tires, lift, winch.

Progression:

Old '06 GX470, which I just passed along to a friend:

After the chrome delete. Didn’t wrap the roof rails since those will be removed:

Sliders, front bumper, and fogs Installed:

Hella lights at night, wired as replacements for the factory running board lights:

Much more to come!

Looking very good!

Crazy to see how it looks with the bumper but still on stock springers and tires. Thoughts on the Magnaflow system? Oh and welcome to Texas!

Yeah, it's a bit strangely proportioned with the bumper and no lift. Fixing that with a 2" lift and some Duratracs soon.

The Magnaflow exhaust is great. I wanted something audible but reasonable, and this fits that perfectly. Around 1800-2000 RPM under some loads, it can sound a bit woofy (low-mid frequencies) in the cabin. It doesn't drone on the highway at those RPMs, though. It's only in some specific situations, like when you're accelerating from a stop.

And I actually went from Texas to Alaska, so you have it the wrong way around. :p

Ahh well that's exciting and slightly disappointing at the same time haha. I requested Alaska as a post when I was in the Army, they did not oblige lol.

You'll enjoy the overall look once it's lifted, these trucks have an overly exaggerated pointy front end and the bumper only further accentuates it but with a lift and meatier tires it brings it all together. I am looking at random Magnaflow mufflers at the moment, is there a specific part number for the one you're running?

It's actually a new product called the Overland Series.

It's a cat-back under-exit exhaust that gives you a bit more ground clearance:

It's a very niche product. I'm actually surprised Magnaflow is building it, but maybe the overlanding trend is big enough.

Wow that's nice, I'll have to look into this further. Where did you buy yours? Is it a slip on system or does it require welding?

I bought it straight from Magnaflow at that link. I had mine clamped on but I'm sure some will prefer to have it welded.

Definitely worth checking out.

Edit: Actually it looks like it straight bolts on, not even any clamps required.

Awesome stuff!! My brother relocated from DFW Texas to Alaska in 2015 and couldn’t be happier I get jealous every time he sends me pics of stuff he does up there. Went to his outdoor wedding near Denali in 2016 and that trip spoiled me forever. If I had the money and didn’t have to work I’d move the family there and never look back. For now I’ll have to “settle” for Texas to Idaho in a year or two.

Looking forward to your build thread!

I love both of those states (ID and AK) and while we are considering a second home elsewhere I can't see myself ever leaving the south-central portion of Texas for good. It doesn't help that the misses is cold if it drops below 85F lol.

Nothing wrong with Idaho!

Welcome and thanks for the link to Magna Flow. I have heard that they were coming out with this Overland series just didn't think they'd have it for the GX. There is a audio sound bite of the exhaust note in the link you shared, is that somewhat representative?

Yes, it sounds very accurate to my ears. You can even hear some of that low-mid boost in the lower RPMs I referred to earlier.

Great! This is a mod that is climbing the list of importance for me as I get closer to my rear bumper arriving. The resonator really is low hanging fruit!

That used to be me. Anything under 80 was cold. In 2013 I had back surgery and now anything above 70 is hot. Funny how that works. Oh and almost all of my allergies went away and I cannot explain that either. To us Idaho has a lot to offer but I’ll write that in my thread so I don’t clutter the OP’s up.

No sir! It’s like Alaska @ 85% of the beauty at a fraction of the size. Wyoming, Montana and Utah are also great free states we considered, though Commiefornia is slowly turning MT blue. I wish King Co in WA didn’t ruin the whole state or we would probably consider there.

Video of it on the inside and out please if you can. I wanna hear that bad boy. If I like it over my plain magnaflow muffler I’ll get it.

Here is a cold start comparison I made of the Magnaflow exhaust. Both are proper cold starts. You should be able to tell that this exhaust won't have you waking up the neighbors.

(I meant to do a couple fly-bys but didn't get around to it and likely won't for a while due to the current winter weather.)

Yeah King, Pierce and Thurston counties dominate the state. The East side of the mountains are fantastic unfortunately same governor.

Flybys are important to me, like I mentioned before on here I come from the fast car world and nothing to me sounds better than a V8. Well, except maybe a Lamborghini V10 or V12. I plan to do a flyby and exhaust video of our 470's exhaust soon. Plus the wife and I are going to drag race each other. I'm at a huge disadvantage in my 460 being heavier in both my personal weight over her and the weight of the 460. LOL She's gonna smoke me probably.

100%. Folks in the rest of the state are just like what people used to be ~30 years ago. VERY friendly. Same with OR outside of Portland.
