No Reserve Auction...Bid to Buy!

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 restoration shop thinning out inventory, offering this 1969 FJ40 for sale. I bought this vehicle is the South Idaho desert with the intention of doing a full restoration. I'm backed up for 2 years so I need to let some vehicles go. There will be a few more in the coming months from mild projects to mint restored FJ40's and 45's but they are not ready yet. This 69 underwent two weeks in my shop going mechanics and safety checks. I'm selling this Cruiser as a running/driving vehicle that can be enjoyed now and upgraded as you go. 1969 model year is emissions exempt in all 50 states. This truck is believed to have 86,xxx original miles. This truck was a barn find. Great entry level FJ40.

MECHANICAL

This FJ40 has it's original F motor that does not appear to have ever been rebuilt. It runs strong, has good compression. Clutch, trans, drive train all work as they should. I added some new parts such as shocks, clutch slave and master, minor things to make it run/drive well. The gauges all work. I drove this truck 40 miles today, no complaints. My tech went through the truck to make it operate correctly.

BODY

The body panels all appear to be original to the truck. The body lines up correctly with original parts, very important on a FJ40. Frame is excellent, original panels and frame are a good sign this vehicle has never been in a wreck. We did some of the minor rust repair, welded in new sheet metal patches. They are just tack welded in place. The rear floor was dented up from tools loaded in the back, we cut it out and put in a new straight floor. The floor is just tack welded in place. I had my fabricator do the hard part and patch in the needed sheet metal. They need to be finish welded if you plan on restoring this vehicle. The hard top is in great shape, this FJ40 body is in good shape speaking FJ40, needs some work to be perfect if that is what you are after. The windshield is cracked, the rest of the glass is good. I added some newer wheels with good BFG tires. Frame and 2 VIN tags match the title. This truck is 99% complete (can't think of any missing parts off hand, but there may be something small missing), no need to spend hours scouring the internet for parts, FJ40 parts are also very expensive.

Overall, this is a great entry level FJ40 with the coveted original doors/hardtop etc. I had my guys go through it making it safe and started in on the metal repair to make it easier for the new owner. We added any missing parts from my collection. The new owner can drive this vehicle, but this is not one of my high dollar turn-key restorations, expect to tinker and play around with it at times, that is part of the fun. This truck can be enjoyed as is, does not require restoration.

I have a clean clear WA state title in my name in hand. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit immediately after auction close via PayPal. The rest cashiers check, bank to bank wire, cash in person within 5 days closed auction. I mail you the title and BOS directly after payment in full, vehicle does not leave my property until full payment is made. I welcome any 3rd party inspection during the auction, skip Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspection in my local phone book, I own that business. As all vintage vehicle sales, this is sold as-is, I do not pay for future work or repairs. Please come look at the vehicle if you are a nervous eBayer. I've sold these all over the world for years sight unseen, but everyone has different expectations, so if my add and numerous pictures are not enough, check it out in person or pay someone to do it for you. Looking is during the auction, not after. I have a shipping broker whom is prompt and fairly priced, I will put you in contact with him, or work with you shipper. If you have feedback under 10, please email me your phone number, unfortunately 3/4 of newbie eBayers do not come through. Thanks for understanding, if you have any questions please ask! Happy Bidding.

50 state smog exempt huh.

Bull****

Nope. Nevada is 67 as are other states.

And not even trying to split hairs here but in Oregon it ranges between Counties.

I've been looking for a clean FJ-40 for months, read a lot of info regarding Cruiser shops in the Western states on this forum. I noticed there are a lot of bad things being said about most shops, so I decided to go to some of these shops and look for Cruisers on Craigslist and other forums to check for myself. I thank this forum for suggesting that on several occassions.

Most shops did not have what I was looking for, the experiences were somewhat rushed and I was lead out the door if not willing to drop a pile of money for a custom Cruiser. VOR is really the only shop I have negative things to speak of.

I thought my best deal would be had from a private owner. Well, I looked at seven or eight, they all needed a lot of work. I was looking in the $15,000 to $20,000 range and figured I could find a good truck. Not so easy.

Anywho, I was not that excited to reach out to Brett as this thread was not so nice, but several people had good things to say that I spoke with on the phone whom some are members of this forum, so what the heck, spend some gas money and see the guy. He had a Cruiser that fit my check list.
He let me drive the Cruiser, did not shoo me off, I spent 3 hours talking about it, he put it up on a rack to show me the underside. I'm not a Cruiser expert, but have spoke with several in the know or so I thought over the past few months to find more hype. I was impressed by Brett's incredible knowledge, he explained the truck, did not try to SELL me on it. Long story short, I bought the truck and drove it home to Utah. I got a nice driver quality clean vehicle at a fair price. I viewed in person his pending restorations, best quality I have seen, but out of my price range. I think anyone whom is willing to sell a Cruiser at a high end auction such as Mecum or BJ at no reserve must be confident in their product.

I'm happy with my transaction, thanks for this forum for giving me some insight, but I recommend anyone that wants a Cruiser to dismiss a lot of the negative hype about all Cruiser sellers and go check for yourself.
I'm stating my experience, I do not wish to debate or argue. I would like to see more positive posts on this forum about everyone, the negativity drags this hobby down. signed Paul, one happy Cruiser Owner!!!!!!!

i just read your post about vintage offroad in another thread and it does not match this comment at all. it seems to me you are sucking and blowing, or are you saying people should ignore the information about vintage off road and fly out to the vintage lot to look at what he has on offer?

good luck and caveat emptor and please share the positive or negative experience as your ownership experience continues, but do not go chastising people about posting their negative experiences for the information of others or suggest people ignore them because 5 minutes into owning a cruiser you are happy. it is obvious you badly wanted a restored turn key from a vendor and were not prepared to pay tlc or ccot pricing, so you took a chance. i hope it works out.

Interesting........ a rookie with a few post giving kudos to a alleged crook.

that guy is a dick head to the max .hes only alive because its illegal to kill him.

guys, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
maybe this individual got lucky

or

maybe the issues will show up down the road.

either way, i would not recommend buying from dickhead unless i went and viewed the potential vehicle WITH someone that knows what to look for.

To my mind, there are 3 options here:

1. Newb poster doesn't know what he's talking about.

2. Newb poster doesn't know what he's talking about AND has been talked into helping said shyster attempt to whitewash reputation with positive experience post.

3. Newb poster doesn't exist.

Any other options probably reside in the .005% category.

^ what he said was what I was trying to get at.

a friend of mine was interested in 1 of his trucks and it looked good except the front fender seemed bent down slightly .i asked him if it was the photo or was the fender bent .holy crap even my drill instructer coulnt top what happened next. a whole page about me and how dumb i was and on and on so thats why i think hes a dickhead.
