Posted this over in EP as well; figured I would try my luck over here...

Looking for a bracket to mount my Worthington aluminum 10lb propane tank on the side of my trailer.

The tank is 10.3" in diameter and 16" high. The height is not an issue, but I am encountering great difficulty finding the right sized straps for the odd sized tank.

Most steel 10lb tanks are 9" in diameter and Adventure Trailer makes a bracket for those tanks; the website says something about 10.5" max diameter, but the wording in the description is not clear:

From the website:

"The bracket and cylinder combined weight is 17 lbs.(7.7 Kg) and it is 18" tall (457mm) with a maximum diameter of 10.5"(267mm)."

Are they talking about the diameter of the tank and bracket together or how large the actual tank straps go?

I called AT and they just said they would get back to me.

If I had the ability to fab one up I would, but I simply don't have the time or tools.

Is anyone currently using this bracket who could get me a measurement?

Just to nip it in the bud, none of the Power Tank brackets are big enough for this tank.

Any help here or other suggestions for mounting the tank would be a great help.

This is the tank I have...

I'm not sure if I understand the advantage of the aluminum(outside of it doesn't rust)...it's the same weight as a steel 11lb'er and twice the cost.

Why not just get a steelie and a bracket for the trailer, and carry the aluminum as a spare. It's nice to have a satellite tank around the campsite..but I also realize you pack quite a bit lighter.

I carry 3 of them...one hooked to the stove, one hooked up to L-5 at the shower tent, and one used on a gas tree to fuel the lantern/gas grill at night.

because I like my aluminum tank and 10# is all I need.

thanks for your input.

and...yea, it is 4lbs lighter than a steel tank. not much but it is lighter.

I know you said you "...don't have time..." but I fabbed one for my 6lb aluminum Worthington tank...had no other choice...didn't take too long. Not that you need a fab idea but REZARF has a nice spread of photos on his trailer build thread that documents how he fabbed his tank carrier... Willing to help you too...

I haven't built one, but I think the PowerTank brackets might fit them.

^ I had a Powertank and bracket like the one you linked...without measuring I'd be surprised if the diameter matched...

yea, I saw his build and like the idea. guess I was just hoping for a quick and easy way out of this. pre-made seams so much more simple these days...

The one from Power tank does have adjustment in it...Another 1-1/2"?...not sure...I'll take a picture to show the difference in length

oh..

seems...

If you end up having to make one the way that I'd do the strap is to take one of these:

from here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#t-bolt-hose-clamps/=qlvqdf
and cut the strap in half (since none of those go big enough). Drill a hole through the end of each strap near the cut and weld them to a piece of SS strap that makes the assembly long enough to wrap around the tank. Can buy the SS strap from mcmaster, but the length and price are way more than needed. Last time that I did this was to mount an air tank and I used carbon steel pallet strapping.

Is this mounting on horizontal or vertical part of trailer? It seems like a simple ring around the lower narrowed portion to hold........and an upper hook/locking/holddown would be ideal. Do u want bolt on or weld on?

The other easier option is to sell trailer and 40 and just get an 80 ;)

Skillet has an 80 already, to go with his 40 and trailer. Besides, I have an 80 and there's never seems enough room for a family camping trip.
