Hey Guys,

I am in the market for some new rubber on my 1981 BJ42 Cruiser... I really like the BFG's Mud Terrains, however becuase my cruiser is my 3rd vehicle and not a daily driver, I really can't justify throwing $750 for new rubber....

Anybody know of a cheaper knock off of the BFG's MT's tread... I heard that Walmart's brand had them but haven't had any luck up here in canada finding them... I know you get what you pay for... and although a brand new set of BFG's would be my number 1 way to go, just can't hit the pocket book that much..

Oh, I am looking for 31 x 10.5 R15's.... I have been tossing and turning over going with 10.5 wide or 9.5 wide, you guys got any opinons on which is better (both functionally on the trail and what looks cooler)... Also, I am pretty sure that 10.5's will fit on stock rims but wanted to confirm????

Any opinion is welcome...

have you looked at toyo? mine are 30.9.50s but maybe they make them bigger --jim

I have 33 x 10.5 BFG ATs on stock rims. I have heard of guys putting a 12.5 wide tire on the stock rim. I think if you went any wider than a 10.5 you would have to cut the rear wheel well (if it's uncut).

I always thought skinny tires looked nice on cruisers...so go with the 9 fives.

I love my 31 x 9.50 super swampers...they weren't that expensive and they're even great on the road. Plus, they look awesome on my old school steelies with hubcaps.

Check out the Roughrider M&S at your local Cdn Tire. 31x10.5 on sale right now for $135.00. Same tread pattern as the Big-O XT.

One OTHER alternative...

Can't help but to pass on this link I got from another MUD posting:

http://treadwright.com/Tires-31x10_50R15_OTR-P15.aspx

If you do some research, they sound valid, and the price is certainly right. FWIW, I drove retreads on a 40 for a good 30k miles with no problems at all, and I don't think they were as good as the ones in the link.

I'm running 33 x 9.50's, and have been debating going back to 31 x 10.50's, only because of the tires in the link (cheap $$) and my tired F engine takes a while to spool up 33's on the road. If I was to spent over a C-note per tire, I'd go with Ziffdaddy's 31 x 9.50 Swampers. As far as 9.50 vs 10.50, 9.50 looks better, but 10.50 probably performs better in all conditions.

Buy the retreads and tell me how you like them.

I was at Beaurepaires yesterday, picking up the girl's car after they repaired a nail puncture :doh: and I did a bit of tyrekicking whilst I was there..
They had Savas for $140.. made in Japan. Now I know they used to be a czech(?) tyre and were taken over by Goodyear.. and some are made here in Aus and others are made in Japan. I hear that the Jap ones are pretty good. Any thoughts??

What are people's opinion on Hankook? I know.. ask three people and you'll get three opinions... but...

I've been running Hankook Dnanamic MTs for about three years now(1 set). They've been a good tire, and have worn well, considering that my 40 serves DD, about 90%, or those three years. I did recently ruin the front two though, due to an incorrect toe-in, from a minitruck knuckle swap, and drove with a 1/2" toe-out on the front for about 1000miles. I've since fixed the toe-in, but now I have excessive wear on the inside of the front tires. The tires worked great in the mud around here. We had record precipitation inSW Kansas earlier this year, and I never got stuck, and ended up pulling a 4x4 ford out, and 2 4x4 chevys out of our road when the base of the road was destroyed. Even down dirt field road that were heavily soaked, was able to get in and out of. I am running 31x10.5x15". Since they were new though I do get a high speed shimmy around 62mph, but subsides around 70mph.

unless off a non US 60(or something)...they are 15x6 not 15x7's

looks great! :)

I've got 33x10.50 BFG ATs on 15x7 60-series steel wheels, tall and skinnys just seem to go with an FJ40 -
