Probably a stupid question, but has anyone tried attaching a tire carrier to the back door of a GX470 with a tire carrier that was made for another vehicle?

some people have been welding a post to their rear frame, cutting a hole through the bumper for the post and using a Jeep swingout for about 400-500 bucks. i think @racwerx did this.Probably a stupid question, but has anyone tried attaching a tire carrier to the back door of a GX470 with a tire carrier that was made for another vehicle?
overseas the prados have the tire mounted to the door. theres a couple shops in the USA that make a kit to do this, but i cant remember their name. The door isn’t all that strong so I think this is asking for a ruined door.

ACC Garage tire carrier. Similar functionality to JW Offroadwhat is becky
How did you get that tire carrier on there? Did u do it yourself, it looks really good.Rampage Offroad Jeep JK single arm over sized tire carrier. One hand operation, opens with the rear door. No issues. Should have the new spacers dialed in during Christmas vacation. Got lucky on a open box at Amazon for around $78.

2x2 3/16” for the swing arm, 2x3 1x4” for the frame mounts. Overall it’s pretty solid. I used the 4xinnovations latch and hinge. Here’s a pic of how I set it up if that’s helpfulWhat size tubing did you use for the main member?
i am planning something very similar, same latch, but I am using a single shear pivot.
You definitely get more strength from connecting the tire carrier across the top like that. I was planning on 2x3x3/16 for the main beam and frame mounts. i would imagine you would need some sort of sliding track for the door mount, as the supporting swing arm pivots from a different point than the door itself does.Have any of you with the custom swing arm on the frame considered attaching the tire mount to the back door, like the Becky or jw off-road? That way, the tire would open and close with the door (convenience) and be supported underneath by the swing arm attached to the frame.

Build it and take my money!!!It's been done. Just need an arm. I will probably try to build these one day... as they combine the convenience of the JW/Becky with the strength of a bumper mount.

Thank you. I’m sure am happy with it. When the rig was stock and I was trying to envision it, wasn’t quite too sure how it would turn out. But I’m loving it now. Yea it's hard to look at these trucks in stock form and see the potential. When we first got ours I had very little desire or...forum.ih8mud.com

Swing out spare tire carrier?
Sorry but this is strictly for the state park crowd. Any real trail and you will destroy the low hanging fruit. Fuel cans near the work service, someone will inevitably set up a camp stove and cause a fire or explosion. Zero recovery capability. If you are stuck you will need to unload that rack...forum.ih8mud.com
