I just purchased a pair of SPE-6000 6.5 in speakers and they do not fit due to their width. The back of the speaker hits some paneling in the door and causes it not to sit properly. Is there a solution or do I need to take them back?

You would have to get a spacer for the speaker so it would stick out farther than the factory speaker. These cars require shallow mount speakers if you want to keep the factory look and speaker grills.

I have typeR 6.5 on the front door, 5.25 rear.. Front did not need spacer, the rear you need

Then that would screw in behind the door panel or over top of it?

Did you have to do anything special to it KKAAAR? What advice do you have for me?

If you're ok using the Alpine grills and not the factory grills, you can use the spacer outside the door to pull the magnet away from the window mechanism. With my Infinity speakers (6 1/2" in the rear), I was able to put a thin spacer inside the door panel. It pulls the door panel out a little, but not really noticeable. They are a PITA to install behind the door panel, but it works.

X2. That's what I meant by spacer.

Thanks guys that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I've got a guy bringing me some 3/4" spacers tomorrow and he's going to hook them up.

I had the same issue with my front speakers. I ended up putting a spacer between the door and panel and then mounting my speakers outside of the door panel. Ended up leaving the grill off due to it hitting the dash.

It should also be noted the 1997 door is shallower than other 80's due to something, I forget what. But no one has mentioned what year trucks in this thread.

I was able to get the cheap Pioneers in my doors under the factory grills but the speaker housing is forced up against the window track or safety beam. (Its been a while)

Yes sir that's exactly what happened with '97, they hit the back of the window track because the speakers are deep. I've got a buddy hooking me up with some 3/4 in. spacers so it should be worked out by this weekend. Appreciate all the advice.

Took em back and just kept my Song xPlodes, which kick surprisingly hard. Thanks for all the advice and help guys, I learned a ton from it.
