any chance of getting some pics of your sway bars?

i've got the 4wd brakes covered. i probably won't go over 35inch tires. do you think a 4inch lift would be better?

I think I'm going with 4" alcans, 35x10.5 SSRs, and FJ60 axles with rear disk brakes. I'm also thinking I'll have the front springs setup with the pin centered to move the tires forward a bit. Still not 100% though. Part of the reason for SUA is more stability on side hills. You get that top on there and start off on a sidehill and SOA might be a bit harry. Maybe one of you can go first with the build :D With moving and buying a house this summer I probably won't have funds until this fall.

no swap bar pics cause i only have the factory bar in there right now. i don't plan on doing a buildup on my troopie for about a year. i have 3 or 4 other projects i need to finish first.
i'm going to set mine up for camping/mild trails and to tow my jet skies to the lake. so it's gonna bet a 4BT (intercooled), an NV4500 and some other powertrain upgrades. i think i'm gonna stick with the stock axles for now.
with the 4BT i have to run a 4" lift and i'd rather stay sua on this one but if the springs are gonna be a problem then i'll just get some OME stock ride heigth replacement springs and go soa with them. troopies are just sooooooo top heavy.........

i won't drive mine for too long before i start the buildup. i really have no idea what to do. i want reliability and for some reason i associate a springover with less reliability. but, on the other hand, i have all these good parts on my 40 that i would have to just let go with the sale. (highsteer, springover, arb's, 4wd brakes, torque arm, longfields, orion) the longfields and orion will probably be swapped over regardless.

my opinion right now is to go with a 4inch lift, lockers, power steering and 34 or 35 inch tires, and swap over my orion and longfields and sell my 40 as is.

the main decision i have to make is springover, or 4inch lift. i was leaning toward springover until reading the last two posts.

i think your concern as to reliability with the soa setup is unfounded. i ran my 66 fj45lv for 6 years with the soa gear and had no problems due to it. actually, the wagon was very reliable. handling is really the only draw back but that can be corrected as well.

My experience with lift springs is they tend to ride like a stage coach. My 45 lpb is SOA and I love it. I decided to go this route due to the huge rear overhang. I didn't want to be dragging my ass every time I went up something steep.

IF I ever get a troopy, it'll most likely stay stock for a while. Ken, your troopy can't be much more top heavy than my pick-up when you're running just the bows.

If you stay sprung-under and build some sliders that protect the entire ass end, 'cause it'll be scraping over a lot of stuff.

Dan

yeah, i know the lift springs are waaaay stiffer and ride so much rougher, but i was thinking that the longer wheelbase would make up some of the difference. am i thinking crazy?

Hey MB...haven't been near a computer for a few days and I was wondering what if anything you decided to do. Congrats on the purchase. I hope you're very happy with it. Best of luck.

Dan, I think if I were to spring it over I'd be a lot more likely to wheel it harder and get bigger tires. If I keep it more moderate it'll be more of a family wheeler. I'll definitely make some sliders.

so, cruiserken, which way do think you'll go? wheeler or family rig?

my most recent thinking has me leaning towards springover, since it will be a better wheeler and a softer ride on the road. i won't be letting all my goodies go with my 40 either. there's no telling how long i will flip flop until making a final decision. grey area sux.

wagansrule, as far as soa or sua, as you can see i'm undecided, but if you're asking about the troopy i bought, it's the one from marv at spector. it was just too hard for me to pass up a lhd troopy with a/c for under 10k. anyway, it's not here yet, so i hope i'm not dissappointed when it gets here. doesn't matter anyway-cuz i'm stuck with it now. if it needs more work than expected, i guess i will just get that much more experience with it. i'm excited, regardless.

i was wondering if a springunder troopy with lift springs rides softer than a springunder 40? any of you experienced this?

that's a loaded question and it's got a lot of different answers. i guess it would all depend on the springs being used and the weight of the vehicle. with proper springs either one should ride just fine, although i'd say that the soa setup with the flatter springs should in theory ride a little better.

well, i was mainly wondering if the longer wheelbase improved the ride quality very much. i know i hear all the time how short wheelbase vehicles are so rough.

the longer wheelbase definetly helps with the ride...

ran into a little hassle with dasautoshippers. all is settled now and the troopy should be here by 5/9. they guarantee it in 2 weeks or less, but have been having some weather problems out there. i don't know, don't care-just want my troopy.:crybaby:

and i have decided to keep it springunder.
