as many of you know, the center console on the 60 is a good bit below your seat, leaving barely enough room for you belongings, where does your arm go? so i searched a found that people, besides ordering a 400$ center console, built their own. So me being the kid that i am, a cheap and great way to fix the problem is music to my ears. Going to an Army Surplus store, i bought a 30$ 20mm Ammo box and began my first little mini project.

first, remove that little plastic toy

i next measured where the original screws came in and simply, with a pencil and ruler, measured where the holes were to be drilled.
i drilled no new holes in the 60 at all for this job

after, with my little Robi drill, i drilled the holes where i marked and bam, fitted the Ammo Box in, bolted it down, and is going great.

although since the screws in front come out besides poke in, you may need to pull the carpet back, or force it down
i pulled the carpet back lol ;)

and as for cup holders, i ordered some tuffy cup holders off of coolcruisers.com
pretty expensive, but work great. Ill post pics of that process tomorrow!

Hope this gave some of you some ideas!!

Cheers!

Give that baby a coat of gray paint and it will look factory! And with a little foam and a bit of gray vinyl you could do an padded armrest.

Great job! Like you, I'd always rather do it myself than pay big bucks to buy such.
For me I would want perhaps a lift-out tray inside, or dividers inside. Too easy to lose things inside a deep boxes. Are you going to add any type of locking device?

I like it, keep us posted with cupholer pics. I will be doing the same mod. cheap and functional!

Im going after school.to HD to buy a locking bolt and key, I just got the cup holders this morning and yes, they fit great! I'll post pics later on. As for painting, I sort of like having the markings from the army and such, by friends think my car is a tank! I'll post the pics of the cup holders soon!

Yeah leave it od green, looks better that way.

If you can scrounge up a small piece of plywood, some foam, and somethin to cover it with a comfy arm rest could be made for cheap. I did one out of an ammo can for my tacoma and my wet okole arm rest cover fit it perfectly, yours looks to be a little bigger though.

Nice.

I'd pad it. I haven't measured but it looks like it sits up high enough to whack your elbow on whilst out wheelin'. I did a similar thing with a .30 box but it's low enough to not need the padding. I also put rubber washers under the mounting screws to maintain the waterproofing, just 'cause. Thinking of getting some cheapie plastic cup holders--one downside of the 30 cal box is it's low enough cup holders will interfere with the opening latch in the front, might pull it and put the latch in the back, or put the cup holders in the back.

The box actually fits rite under my arm! I feel any padding would lift my elbow a bit too high, I guess im just the rite size! And my cup holders fit perfectly, still have room to use my e brake, and plenty room to shift with!

Let us know how that works out after you do some trails. I see the potential to smack the H E double hockey sticks out of your elbow on a rough road. Your passenger will also appreciate it;).

Or you can spin the ammo can 180 and have it open from the rear and mount the cup holders on the "new" front, which is actually the back of the ammo can.....?

I've been meaning to get around to doing the same thing but you beat me to it. Do you have an pics with the cup holders?

Cup holder pics!

well, i installed the cup holders, another 10 min job.

it came with all the screws and washers, so all i had to do was measure, and drill holes. also they fit perfectly so if i have a cup, it doesn't interfere with the opening of the box!!

there were only 2 screws to install, so it was a quick and easy job. :grinpimp:

nice cup holders! where from?

ordered off of coolcruisers.com
they are the tuffy cupholders, i recommend them, thy hold all size cups, and real easy to instal!!

oops nevermind, re-read your post :-)

This thing looks bad ass!!! I really like the look of the OD green as well. Seeing this, I'm definitely not spending $$$ on a tuffy. Great work and good thinking on the cup holders (I keep forgetting I don't have any haha).

Actually looks like it fits better than my Tuffy, good job. But I think I agree with the others paint and a little top padding and most people would not notice the lack of a lock and think it was a Tuffy.
