Hey
I have just purchased a brand new FJ. Couldn't find a used one for a reasonable price. I went through the Costco new vehicle purchase program and got a screaming deal.

Anyway, it has the "off road" package and as such the dealer can't install the standard Toyota alarm system. I double checked this online. Does anyone know of a work around or a good aftermarket system that can be installed without major hacks? I hope to get one the will work with the standard Toyota keyless entry system. Not looking for anything high tech, just something that screams if the doors are opened or if it is hit. I really do need an alarm.

Any good or bad experience or information would help.

Thanks
John

I see the note the seller posted in his ebay advert. Yet, going to Toyota.com, using their "build a vehicle", one can build one with the off-road package. The exclusion is the convenience package, at least that is what the site noted when I clicked on it as an option. If I removed the convenience package, one could add the alarm to the off-road package.

I don't mean to come off argumentative, just sounds odd to me. My experience has been that Toyota pre-wires for most everything, every option and I can't figure out why the off-road package would option out the factory alarm.

Yet, I'm sure there are many other fine options available, I'm no good at offering any guidance there, sorry...

Not arguementative at all. My limited experience with newer cars is that the main wiring harnesses are the same for all. The options are just plug-in's. Actually I thought the convience package was REQUIRED because the alarm required keyless entry. All I can guess is that there is an issue with the software.

The install instructions say, "Automatic Transmission and Off-road Package" conflict on 2013 models. There are many connectors that could cause an issue, but the first thing I thought of was the knockout in the center console where the Glass Breakage Sensor goes. Is there already a switch in that spot?

No. There is no switch at that knockout location. Can you post a link to those instructions? I found a link to some older instructions (circa 2008). Nothing that referenced 2013.

There have been so few 6mt sold that the dealer may have been confused and thought it applied across the board.

Anyway thanks for the help.
