I knew that guy would sell it.

Said some really nice things about you.

FRAME OFF RESTORATION

The pictures should speak for themselves. I purchased this out of South Carolina from a man that told me this was his sixth restoration. We negotiated and worked this out over many months. He wanted it to go to the right home - as I do! So if you are going to not garage it, beat it or otherwise not baby it like I have PLEASE DO NOT BID. This truck and its restorer deserve it.

Since purchasing it I have stored it in my garage in Phoenix. It has not seen the rain or anything else for that matter but dry air and sunshine - and only the sunshine when I drive it. Its engine was rebuilt by a Toyota dealer OEM.

All restoration parts are factory OEM when possible.

Here are a few of the things done: Here are only a few - you can connect the dots.

Powder coat frame, etc; sand blast new parts where necessary and repaint Freeborn Red; rebuilt 2F engine by Toyota Dealer OEM, rebuilt carb, all new springs, new nuts and bolts throughout, Front Disc brakes and rear shoe (all rebuilt), new brake lines, components, brake cylinder, bearings, seals, hub bolts, wiring harness, interior, headliner, glass (WITH FACTORY OEM STICKERS), moldings, badges & emblems, radiator, hoses, 5 New BFG 10.5 - 31" R15 MTs on new factory black 15" wheels; new clutch slave and assembly; all new lights throughout including the interior above the driver's side. 2 1/2 inch lift.

It basically is probably in at least as good a state as when it left the factory from what I can tell. But please feel free to have an expert come and look at this at my house.

I do not know its mileage but the odometer and my title do not match. I believe it was newly restored when I bought it and I have put only a few miles here and there on it. Mostly I take short trips and fuss with it.

I also have four (4) 16" Pacer wheels which are pictured that ALSO COME WITH the truck. There is no 5th in the Pacer and NO spare cover. They accomodate 265/75 16 without hitting and have the proper offset.

This FJ40 starts and runs flawlessly.

It is OEM Freeborn Red with the optional 4:11 - 1 gearing. I found this better for a ride to the beach in Traverse City, Mich. when I am back for the summer or in town on surface streets here in Phoenix. It is not as freeway friendly as the 3:73 but does well. It also has the 4 speed transmission.

ONE MORE THING. I am uncomfortable with attention and I am very private. Wherever I went, it draws a crowd. I have had people in Mercedes and Porsches to jacked up 3/4 ton pickups chase me down to ask me about it or to ogle it. You won't be able to come out of a store without a crowd of guys around it - all have questions. Its like being Tom Cruise - only taller and poorer.

It also has had the exhaust rebuilt and it includes a ceramic header. It sounds perfect - not too loud but all there. quiet at higher speeds but rumbles at idle. HOWEVER, because of the header and without the catalytic converter and air pump - which I do not possess, it will not necessarily pass every county's/city's equipment requirements if you have them - including Phoenix (though it did at first). I think they made a mistake. There are a number of places that specialize in this and some areas like Phoenix have a program that will actually contribute dollars.

As you see from the pictures I hope, the doors are a little wavey and like all cruisers, things do not fit perfectly. The German Shepherd dulled the paint in the rear of the truck floor by the jump seats. But there are no excuses no regrets with this truck. I am absolutely pleased with it - without reservation. But, I believed my wife and kids would love to ride with me. No one will. My wife would rather shop. My kids are 2 & 4. That leaves the dog and she literally only understands "speaks" German. I thought about joining a club but they are about 45-60 minutes drive. Plus, remember, it does not pass equipment requirements in Phoenix until these items are restored. HOWEVER, it passes the emissions approaching a fuel injected car.

IT IS SO QUIET A MOTOR, I FIRST THOUGHT IT HAD STALLED. NO kidding.

I have set the reserve low. BUT if you do not intend to baby this rig - please do not bid. I owe this to a really good man that restored this.

Funny...when I found that thing it was in a yard with a 6 foot tree growing out of it.

I took pics of that when Alan first finished it - he and his son drove it over for GSMTR. They stopped off at our riverside camp, and with the lighting being partially shaded by the trees - it was just a gorgeous ride. Better than new.

Here's one of the pics - same 40, note the black running board...

That cruiser is partially responsible for me being an Upstate Member today. The first time I met any Upstate People was at Tellico. I heard the TT was going to be there with this club out of S. Carolina. So Dan and I borrowed a pop up, convinced Steen to come along (yeah, whatever) and headed north. I pull in and the first person I run into is Alan unloading his blue trail truck. We start talking and I say I am from GA and we realize that he know my brother and bought a 40 from him. Small world!!! But showing up and immediately being accepted and comfortable and I was sold.

Cruiser Karma. It's good stuff.

Small world indeed. I am SO glad to see how well that truck looks...

I could have never done it that much justice!

Wow. Unfortunate. Trying to connect the dots...

So Dan and I borrowed a pop up, convinced Steen to pull it to Tellico since I'm driving a wimpy truck(yeah, he's a hell of a guy!)

Fixed it for you... :flipoff2:

b/t/w, that's a beautiful truck... hope he get's all of the 22k+ he wants for it! Anyone spending that kind of cash won't be bashing it against rocks I wouldn't think.

Anyone noticed the center consul? Is that a heater combo? Some FJ40's were not fitted with rear heaters.

Nope. Stock mid 70's steel console. You can see the bolt holes for the rear heater in the floor. Apparently it never had it, or Alan took it out. I think Jim's 82 has the new style console with the integrated heater. It's a big plastic do jobbie. Nifty - but not as kool as the old style round floor heaters.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. I am surprised to see this fellow selling it. He was pretty hot to buy and I gave him a great deal because his suituation. Also stored it for him for 3 months. As good as it is I think the 79 I am lucky enough to have now is better.

By the way, It lost in competition to Jere Petersons 45 at our annual gathering as "best in show" but won the following year. I never did forgive him for that.......NAH!
