Day three. Frosty morning
Galbreath lake is a popular camping spot. Has a longish rwy with lights, and a unused control tower
Wiseman, just north of Coldfoot. Old mining town. Some have started up B&B and such.
Took a little side road to an active mine, about 5mi. long. Found some mud and got to use 4lo
Didn’t stop in Coldfoot for fuel this time since I still had 3/4 full front tank. Camped at the Arctic circle sign campground
Someone’s creative idea of a light camping trailer.
Next day
There’s a interpretive station at the Yukon river bridge
After overnight in Fairbanks headed to Delta to drive down the Richardson Hwy. Always drove past this historical place called Rikas road house. Interesting look into the 1910’s and later. Unfortunately the buildings where closed.
Some inside shots through the windows
The guy that built this roadhouse. I probably worked for his grandsons at Frontier Flying Service
Stopped in the trail to the Canwell Glacier, previously reported on two years ago, to check out the little lake that was located in a picturesque location to see about camping there overnight. It was raining most of the way down the Richardson and here at the lake. So decided didn’t want to camp in the rain all night, but still wanted to try climbing the trail behind the lake, which we hadn’t done the last time there. It had a couple of pretty steep sections. Drove up in 2nd 4LO. Drive down in 1st 4LO. Between the mud tires and the 3:1 low range I hardly slipped any, surprisingly. Probably wouldn’t have made it with AT tires.
Unfortunately didn’t get any pics of the climb.
