Folks,

To prep for towing duty, I got the LC/LX kit from Air Lift in the back springs of my 01 LX. What is the max pressure you've used? Have the bladders ever ruptured on you? If so, at what PSI did the rupture occur? Do you just inflate them to level out the back stock ride height when needed and leave them at a low pressure when not needed?

Going to be used in conjunction with trailer brake controller, 16'x8' dual axle cargo trailer loaded to prolly 6k pounds (includes trailer), and load level + anti-sway hitch. Cross country, all highway move.

Thanks in advance.

I've hauled a dual axle hydraulic dump trailer full of mulch with mine. I'm guessing total weight about 8,000 lbs but only for a few miles. I tow this trailer with 35 psi in the bags and haven't had one rupture. I've towed it a lighter weight (6K?) for 60 70 miles without problems. I tow my boat which is somewhere around 3-3,500 lbs with 25 psi in the bags.

Get ready to get 10 mpg or less if towing something that heavy.

I belive the max pressure is 35 psi but you can confirm on their website. Your supposed to keep 5 psi min in them to keep them from moving around but I run mine at zero psi with no issues. Didn't your set come with instructions? They cover all this....

It came with instructions, but the instructions say max 100psi. Sounds absurd to me, so I wanted to check with real world users here first.

Thanks for your patience everyone, I'm doing the towing solo so I'm trying to optimize equipment to lower the potential stress.

Just installed mine last night. I hope to haul our camping trailer (overland style) with it this weekend. For starters I just left 5psi in the system.
Did you drop the axle or just compress the springs? If mine pop on the journey for any reason, I plan to carry a spare and spring compressor kit for replacement if necessary. Knowing my luck, one of the bladders just may pop.

The easiest way to install is to disconnect the sway bar and drop the axle all the way down with the vehicle jacked up. Remove the spring and insert. Doesn't take long.

I've also replaced a leaking bag by just jacking up the vehicle, cutting up the old one to get it out and then pushing the new one through the spring with a blunt tool.

That's the answer I was hoping to receive. Excellent, thank you.

It's probably faster to drop the axle and remove the spring. They don't go in easy through the spring, I remember a lot of cursing. Although if on the road...

I called Air Lift, mystery solved. I have the right manual number, most of the right wording, but for the wrong kit numbers. My table says 100 PSI max. It should say 35 PSI max.

Kudos to Air Lift, they helping me out. :)

Man, jealous of you guys. I installed mine and it leaks no matter what. Dropped the axle a 2nd time, made sure the hoses were seated all the way on the nipples, swapped the spring clamp for a zip-tie, still leaks (where the hose is on the nipple). It's so frustrating, and if I drop the axle again I might as well get new springs and rip these out.

But I can't reinstall my bumpstop, with the widened hole.

Could it be leaking at the valve?

No, I can easily hear it and brush my fingers across it, hearing the air hiss change.

It seems to hold air unless anything touches the hose or nipple at the bottom of the bag. My bumpstop mounting hole seems to have been off center slightly, so the hose can still contact the edge of the whole while the suspension cycles (even though I widened the hole). I can widen the hole some more, but I'm afraid the bag would try protruding through it when under pressure. I dunno, maybe that's what I should do.

Airbag Man of Australia has these kelvar sleeves to protect the airbags and allow for a wider pressure range. They employ the firestone bag from what I can tell and are willing to ship to the US at reasonable rate. I think in the future if I were to do more towing, I would purchase from them.
