Airbag Recall Requires Two Appointments???

Mine was done in one trip. I called and they ordered the part. Once the part came in, they sent me a text and I made the appointment by text. I have the tan interior and the new belt is tan, matching the other belts. I dropped the truck off at 7:30 AM for the recall and a state inspection. By 9:30 AM I got a text that the truck was done.

Sorry to hear that some of you are getting a run around by your dealer.

Unrelated. The dealership did have a brand new supra on the showroom floor. $57k MSRP. Marked up to $89k. Don't think they'll ever be getting any of my money.

That's a lot of money for an ugly BMW.

My part finally arrived after a few weeks. Service advisor called to let me know but that he was going on vacation but would schedule me with another advisor for today at 1030. I got an email 2 days ago asking to confirm my appointment for a 215pm appt today. I called and said no it's at 1030. They said no its 215 and actually we can't do the work that late because it wont get finished. Wtf. So I talked to service advisor and rescheduled for 800 the following Saturday. Yesterday I get an email while on the golf course asking to confirm my 215 appt for today. Hmm maybe they forgot to cancel that one. So I click cancel. 20 minutes later I get a phone call letting me know about my 215 appt. I said it was supposed to have been rescheduled for next saturday at 8. She said I didnt have an appt on the calendar for then. At that point the combined frustration with this service department and my crappy putting made me subconsciously decide that this service counter lady was going to hear some F-bombs. She took them like a champ and then confirmed my 800 appt for next Saturday.

I'm getting another new sun visor put in too (see different thread) so we will see if that part is still around on the shelf come next Saturday. Yes the last time they shipped my visor out to someone else before my appointment to install it. No joke.

We must use the same dealership @LvCruiserNewb

Mine was just completed this morning. 45 minutes, in and out. I waited while it was done. Correct belt color. Overall I'm satisfied.

This did involve a lot of jumping through hoops in advance: being told I needed to leave my car twice for full days, escalating to Toyota Customer Care, making sure they ordered the part, making sure it came in and they didn't use it for someone else, verifying the day before the appointment making sure they had the right part, fighting over why I needed multiple appointments, and why I couldn't wait.

They were definitely annoyed with me for being high maintenance, but I've heard too many horror stories.

In the end, it got done, and done well.

PS. I locked the glovebox, kept the physical key and told them I didn't want them touch the cabin air filter. I JUST repaired a broken recirc door and don't want to deal with that again. I added the great custom sticker from another mudder (@Hoosier Daddy) as a reminder in case they somehow get past the locked glovebox.

My first appointment for the Recall I went in ( a week after I made the appointment so they could order the part) , two hours later Magic Toyota (Seattle) called, they don't have the part.
Two weeks later I get a call, they now have the part. I called them back, had them verify the belt is gray. No, it's black. I couldn't even get a call back.
Jesus Christ Toyota. I'm pretty pissed right now. Going to go rattle some cages at Toyota Corporate.

Well, let’s see how this goes.

I suspect that the problem is at your dealer, rather than Toyota corporate. Have you spoken with the service department manager?

Well looky here. Two appts and a three hour wait. But it’s done. Now hopefully the pax airbag light stays off.

Just picked up my 09, after they had assured me they had the correct parts. Guess what? Black belt, despite my gray interior. The belt color is actually pretty close, but the plastic part of the buckle makes it obvious it’s not a match. JFC, they tell me they’ll get the correct color ordered and be in touch to set up another appointment.

Edit- this was at Boulder Toyota.

I went back to the dealer last week so that the service advisor could get photos of the black belt. According to him, the VIN for my 2009 shows the interior color as "black" in their system, even though gray and tan were the only two interior color options in 2009. So when they ran the VIN for the recall parts, Toyota sent them a black belt. He is supposedly going to get in touch with Toyota to get me a gray belt, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Your other belts are gray? Can you post a picture?

Mine are considered gray on the box, but I'd call them black.

Yeah, this is what I heard also. Just wanted to see if anyone else has actually gotten a gray belt. The old gray part number is now superseded by a new number that gets you the black belt. I know this as I decided to do mine myself due to the light being on and ordered the correct part number and also ended up with a black belt. Install took like 15 minutes, quite a joke really that they take hours to do this.

Discovering they have a glitch in the matrix like this could easily explain why dealers started saying two appointments were needed. Then, things don’t get communicated correctly and even that doesn’t totally prevent the color mismatch problem.

Even more glad I have a black interior now..

You all prompted me to check mine- 2010 LX that was done right when the remedy became available.

My interior is grey, the seat belt itself matches the other non-replaced side- but the plastic on the latch doesn't match. It's clearly black on the new belt and grey on the other side.

I'm thinking this will annoy me- so I'll end up taking it back to the dealer.

Toyota west Denver..booked appointment 4 weeks out. Completed this am in 1.5 hours. Correct belt cover and they washed the LC. (They must of thought it was an LX)
I am unaware of the issue with the cabin air filter?? my local mechanic replaced what appeared to be the original 39,000 mile filter four months ago.....it had completely disintegrated...looked like a rats nest inside. ( I bought this 2017 eight months ago). No evidence of any problems. I did not ask the dealer if they opened the glove box. What should I be worried about?
