At beach with family, just finished loading up the truck to start the 6 hour trip back home.

Then I see this

I've had the truck about a year. AHC service has been on my list but judging by that dark fluid its been long over due. (I'm assuming this is an AHC leak)

I've got a 6 hour drive home with kids in tow.
I can't really tell where it's leaking from.

Is there anything I need to make sure I do to get it home without burning up a pump or causing further damage? Don't want a minor problem to become a big one.

Need the forum brain on this one as I have no real experience with the AHC system.

Looks like a toyota dealer kind of on the way home about 2 hours away happens to have one can of AHC fluid.

Plan is to drive there check fluid level and topoff if needed. Drive rest of the way home.

Guy on phone sounded like he had no clue about AHC fluid and was surprised they had a can of it.....

Anyway to know for sure I'm dumping in the right stuff?

If it's the plastic bottle you may want to pour it into a clear cup and make sure there isn't contamination before using. Bad fluid from dealers was a thing for a good while, and if that bottle has been sitting there for a long time... If it's one of the metal cans I believe it should be ok.

For more info

Thanks!

Sounds like If the container is metal I should be good, if plastic then check for contamination.

Metal 2.5L can = Good
Plastic 1L bottle = Double check

If you pull off the cover in your passenger rear wheel and shine a light from up under the spare tire area, you'll be able to see if there is fluid in the reservoir. As long as there is fluid, you should be ok to drive home

From the amount of fluid on the ground, I'm not overly concerned. That looks like a smaller leak, but given where it is dripping from, probably will need to identify the line/coupling it it coming from

Nalley Lexus in Marietta usually carries ahc fluid. I ordered it from mcgeorge Toyota. I have three cans if you need to Borrow. I am in Atlanta

Been driving a couple hours was in the dealer for about 30mins. Left truck running came back out and checked the area where it was leaking. I don't really see any new or wet drips.

I'm not prepared to really dig into it until I get home but I'm stumped at the moment. Especially if this isn't a common area for AHC to leak.

Thanks for the offer! I think I'm good but will definitely let you know if this thing starts dumping fluid somewhere between here and Atlanta. I'm heading back up to Gainesville.

Are you certain it didn't taste like doctor pepper?

Honestly my first thought was one of the kids spilled something under the rig. But then I saw it dripping from the truck.....

However, who knows with my kids. Hopefully it was a misplaced Dr. Pepper.

Realistically if something was spilled I'd expect it to be coming out of the body seam just inboard of the running boards. Might as well look for evidence that something was spilled.. but having the fluid on hand is the right move.

Figured I'd bring this thread to a close if for nothing else than to help save the AHC system from uneeded ridicule for future googlers.

I cant find any discernible leak. No low fluid level etc.. I'm chalking this up to one of the folks or kids in my beach group spilling something (maybe bacon grease) idk as we we were getting ready to leave the house and it splashing up on the truck.

I was in a hurry to get out of the rental or I would have investigated the puddle further.

At least I have 2.5l of AHC fluid for my upcoming flush.

Based on location and the fact that it seems to be working fine, I’ll just throw out a possibility. If the 5th accumulator sprung a leak. You’d lose about a coke cans worth of fluid and once the valve for it closed the AHC system would work as normal. The accumulator is mounted on the inside of the drivers side frame rail in front of the rear axle.

Side question. Does anybody know if the high pressure lines between pump and master accumulator/control valve are simple brake lines?
I don't see them listed in the parts manual.

48997-60010 closest to height control valve
48998-60010 middle, most likely to fail
48999-60010 closest to pump

They're like brake lines so someone can fabricate them

Very nice thank you for this! I need to take a look but my rear right frame rail had wetness so whatever line runs on top of it.
Now I see where they in the parts diagram.
