Hi Mudders,

I'm back in a new to me LX470 after a two year absence from 100 forum. Went to a 200 series GXL for awhile but the LX is superior in my opinion. Paint quality, looks, leather, carpet, woodgrain, materials etc....the 200 is just too big and plastic for me.

Anyhow, truck arrived sight unseen from Queensland. Cosmetically excellent but suspension needed an overhaul. Anyway, I've picked up the truck today after a $5k Bill (Bushes, TB/WP, Belts, Ball joints, AHC shocks etc) and I've noticed the mechanic has filled the system with fresh GREEN PENRITE LHM Citroen hydraulic fluid instead of the cherry Toyota AHC fluid. Is this acceptable to drive with? I am not noticing any ill effects and she drives like a dream as you would expect with new shocks. Will this cause long term issues or should be ok? I know Citroen pioneered Hydraulic Suspension anyway. Curious to hear thoughts?

It looks to be high quality hydraulic fluid. I'd leave it.
Did you speak with the shop about it?

I did, he informed me that was what was recommended to him. By who, I can't say. It does look high quality, thats why i'm on tne fence about leaving it or getting it flushed.

Pleiades from the UK, specialists in AHC systems, have tested many hydropneumatic fluids on Toyota globe diaphragms. Their tests indicated no adverse effects from prolonged exposure to LHM fluid and the LHM fluid showed itself to be compatible with Toyota AHC fluid. That being said, their official conclusion was basically, although they couldn't see any issue with using LHM fluid in a Toyota AHC system, best practice is to use the fluid spec'd for your vehicle, if it's available.

Personally, I've considered switching over to LHM solely because of how cheap it is, but decided to hold off until I have to do some major component replacement (shock actuators, lines, pump, etc.) where a "hydroflush" type cleaning would make sense. If I were you, I'd probably leave the LHM unless/until you notice any issues in performance.

Will keep you posted on how it performs.
