Hello, I've got a great newbie question. Are there any companys that make OEM style aftermarket headlight housings for a 1996? One of my lenses has busted tabs about about a quart of water in it. I was thinking of turning it into an aquarium, but I wouldn't want to blind or fry any guppies when driving at night. I suppose I could try and fix it, but if I'm going to remove it I'd just rather replace it.

I've searched around the for sale section, posted a want ad, even searched through posts, but couldn't find anything here. I also checked certifit.com and carparts.com w/o luck. I refuse to go to the dealer. If I can't find aftermarket, I will just end up waiting until someone parts out a LC. I'm a bit surprised that my typical sources don't carry anything.

contact CruiserDan at American Toyota for the best price on the OEM part. they are several hundred dollars.

If you cannot aford that wait for a part out, headlights go quick so you will need to haunt thne for sale section here, ebay, car-parts, junkyard dog, etc. I sold used ones for over $150 each.

watch out for stripped adjusters on used headlights, especially form northern states.

IIRC only headlights form 95 through 97 Land cruisers will work on your 96, I think the earlier LC headlights are diffrent, I know for sure that the 96/97 LX450 headlights are diffrent.

I have never heard of a aftermaket headlight for an 80 series but have never looked for one, if such is out there I doubt it will have the quality of the OEM unit.

I just priced them a couple of days ago from american Toyota. Full set up each side with bulbs a little over 200+ each. Not much more than the aftermarket ones shown, I would vote the toyota route.

I love American Toyota, Great prices friendly and helpful, beat my local stealership by tons. My friend owns a garage and promised me he could get bottom prices from the dealership with his discount, still much more than American, This was for a mix of parts, all comparable discounts,

I was skeptical but now believe.

Thanks
John

Bought my new one for a little over $185 each brand new from Toyota of Dallas.

was that with the bulbs and full set up or just the housing?

Used ones come up on occation. I snagged a set for $200 for my 94. Same problem....

Just for what its worth. RPW headlamps remanufactures oem lamps. dont know if it is worth the call or not, 800-336-4028.
FWIW I replaced one of mine and bought the whole assy form cdan, worth my time not to have to mess around with s***.

with bulbs and the upper and lower chrome piece, is the complete headlight housing.

thanks for the information! I will wait a little while and see if I can snag a used one off the for sale section or Ebay. I'd do the import lamps, but I need something DOT legal. Otherwise, Toyota of Dallas certainly had a good price too.

I also checked out car-part.com, the online salvage yard database, but there were only a few in the entire US in the database. There aren't any LC's of any year in any of the salvage yards around here.

Thanks!

mnwolftrack... as far as car-part.com goes, you may want to do a search for a more common mechanical part, alternator/ps pump/brake booster. This search will turn up hundreds of listings. A little phone time and you may find someone with a half dissassembled cruiser in their yard that still has the headlights intact. I have had good luck doing this in the past on certain parts.

Good point. Parts only get listed if someone enters it into the car-part.com database. I will try that instead.

Can anyone confirm one way or the other if only 1995-1997 FZJ-80 headlight housings will work? I've got a line from one on an earlier FZJ-80 but want to make sure it will work.

i MIGHT be wrong, but i THINK the only difference is the little trim pieces on the top and the bottom, which are removeable

someone please correct me if i am wrong

thanks
