The sound and heat barrier coatings have definitely made a difference. Before you could barely touch the trans tunnel or floor due to the heat. Now they are just warm to the touch. The noise from the motor and trans has gone done considerably as well. The dirt and dust cleans up pretty easily off the coated surfaces too.

My gas tank started to seep alittle on the bottom seams. Looks like it was brazed together from the factory. For now, I used some permatex epoxy to seal the areas. It seems to have passed the overnight test and the garage does not smell of gas. In the long run, I want to upgrade to a larger custom tank.

Thanks to Crawlin Cruiser and Landcrusher909, I have enough door hardware to finish the front passenger door. I combined the later style handles with the early trim rings.

Jack,
Keep doing what you're doing. I love this truck in every way. Keeping the mechanical's in shape, visiting ghost towns, leaving the patina, all perfect and what I'd do. So, in my humble opinion, keep doing what you're doing.

P.S. I hope Bman comes back to the LC world one of these days.

Since getting this wagon going 2 years ago, I have never had the fuel gauge work properly. I have a new sender in the tank from a 1974 model to match my gauge cluster. I used the original wiring harness after refurbishing it. The gauge would intermittently work. Weird thing was usually if it was raining out. The other day I rinsed the mud off the bottom of the wagon, then went for a cruise. Gauge was working. Figured it had to be a ground. The factory harness has 2 wires that go to the sender. One is a ground that attaches to the sender. I just added a jumper from that to the body and like magic.....gauge now works. Gotta love simple fixes.

Just read your entire thread! Love the look of that truck as it is...

I realize you have already solved this but, as you know, the white/black wire is the ground wire for the sending unit. It grounds to the LV frame via a ring terminal towards the front near the tranny. Quite common for that wire to break or a stick pulll it off while wheeling.

Thanks for that info. Going to go have a look. I probably just missed reattaching it or thought it was not needed. Either way......I am one happy camper with the fuel gauge working.

Thanks for the props. The LV is a great conversation starter no matter where I go with both young and older people. Everybody seems to love it.

This month marks the 2 year anniversary of getting it back on the road. I have logged about 9000 miles on it so far. I will be taking it to the Good Guys car show next weekend. Was also invited to Camelback Toyotas car show/bbq but I am bummed I can't make it due to Good Guys.

Out at Good Guys car show in Scottsdale today. Lots of people interested in the checking out the wagon. Only saw one other Cruiser. Lots of other cool stuff though.

Spent all day at the show yesterday. Pretty amazing how much more attention it got this year versus the last 2 years. Met alot of cool people and had another great day. Just as I was heading out, a guy came over to chat. Seems he owned my wagon years ago and had traded it to All Toyota Salvage in Phoenix for some parts in about 2005-2006. Which matches up with where and when Bman (who I bought it from) originally got it. Didn't really get much more info other than guy said he picked it up in Sedona......not Jerome as I was told. Either way it was cool to meet another person who was part of this trucks past.

Finally picked up some weather strip for the tailgate opening. I found info here: 1965 FJ45lv build up/resto thread Then sourced something similar at my favorite semi local paint and body supply.......Space Age Paint in Mesa. I took a few pix of some cool stuff they have hanging around.

I got the weather strip installed and it turned out pretty good. I did it by myself, but a second set of hands would be helpful. I posted the part numbers and adhesive I used in the LV weather strip thread. I will found out how well it seals and stops noise tomorrow as I have a day trip planned.

The tailgate weather strip is working great. No more drafts from the rear of the wagon. Less noise, rattles, and the hatches fit better with that empty space being filled. Perfect with the onset of the cooler temps lately.

A small group of us went to check out some mines and look for the remains of a ghostown yesterday. It was a great day in the mountains with all kinds of weather from sun to even some snow flurries. We never really found anything at the ghostown site but explored the mine which was cool. It has 3 different levels with scoots and ladders connecting them. The bottom level was flooded, so we plan to go back with proper footwear. All in all a great trip with some good wheeling to exercise the LV. Total mileage was about 120 miles with about half of that being dirt.

I have got to get my LV back together and running. Every time I see an update on this thread, I get so excited.
Love the fact that you are using it…. a lot :)

Today marks the 5 year anniversary for this thread. The LV has been one of the most fun vehicles I have owned. I have a few upgrades planned for the near future, but who knows what else lays ahead.

Thanks to all the helpful people on this board who gave information or parts to keep this wagon going.

My home internets has crapped out, so posting pix is limited for a bit. I have been driving the LV a lot lately. With the exception of my work commute, I have been using the LV for everything else. Went on a few off road trips over the last few weeks. The tailgate weather strip is working good, but the dust is coming in from every other spot that is not sealed up. I need to seam seal a few spots behind the rear cargo panels. Also there is a gap in the cargo window weather strip at the top (still og stuff). Other than that, it's running like a champ.
