Just got AFI's fuel injection kit and was checking for fitment and the first thing I checked (throttle body fitment) I ran into an issue. Bolt pattern is correct, but when the adapter is aligned to the intake manifold the bolt wholes are off by a bit. When the bolt wholes are aligned the adapter does not fit and there is a gap due to clearance.

I was wondering if anyone has ran into this issue before. The intake manifold numbers are 17111-61010.

Can't see much from that pic. I really like downeys adapter vs the plate adapter if that's what that is.

If you take a look at the bolt whole (not the threaded on) in the top right you will see that it does not align with the threaded whole in the intake manifold. The plate loos well done, but the pattern is off. Here is another picture of the misalignment.

What if you spin it 180?

Contact AFI - their customer service (presale, for me) has been excellent.

What was the resolution to this?

I ended up using the adapter, but had to do some modification to it. I opened up the adapter whole to minimize restriction due to whole misalignment.

I also had to take off quite a bit of metal to make it sit flush on the intake. I did talk to AFI and was not impressed with the way they handled it. They did offer to send it back for them to make the adjustment to the relief section only in order to sit flush. They were not interested in making the wholes and the intake whole align with the manifold. By the time I send it and get it back it would still probably have fitment issues so I decided to do it myself. They did mention that other people have had similar issues with it not fitting flush on the intake. I would have expected them to make adjustments to the design.

Thanks for explaining the resolution.

More Downey TBI adapters will be built in the near future. My Foundry supplier when out of business, so have to find a new supplier who is willing to cast my smaller quantities. Have two new supplier possibilities now, so stay tuned.
