good afternoon guys, this might be the wrong place to post but I’m from nanaimo and hopefully that makes it alright 😂. I’m having an issue with smoke coming from the breather and I am looking for a little bit of advice(video included) I just don’t want to sell it with too many issues

(I’ve been trying to sell the truck but this is last on the list besides a new a343f transmission pan if anyone’s got one new or used hehe.)

You think it might be oil spray (mist) resulting from blow-by ?

Yeah it’s always had blow by, pretty sure all 2lte do. Not consuming coolant. Everything else seems fine. I was thinking maybe the valve stem seals? I was just mainly concerned about the smoke maybe I’ve never noticed it.

I want to sell it and get a car for work but don’t want to sell something ****ed 🫠

It's pretty typical for these motors. Venting pre turbo can wear out the compressor. I vent mine into frame. Cleaning a filter in the valve cover or buying the updated valve cover helps a lot. Generally if the motor starts easy and clean then it's probably in okay shape as far as compression goes. I find mist is worst after a fresh oil change, but then gets better after a tank of fuel or so of driving.

Looking again at your picture, the mist seems quite minimal actually...

So I just took it for a drive (with the breather vented into the frame) and I was able to see what I think is smoke from my passenger window and definitely coming from the breather…… so i don’t know :/ my partner says I have “Surf OCD” so maybe it’s just me
But also doesn’t seem good cause I feel like I would have noticed it before. I just wanted a different opinion before I try the valve seals as they came with a gasket kit. (And the gf is in Europe till the end of the month hehe)

Valve seals are pretty tough to do with the head on engine. You have to remove timing belt, cam. Put piston at TDC doing one cylinder at a time. Need special valve compressor that works just from top. Maybe easier just to remove head honestly.

The old 3b's have a vent the aims right at the front driveshaft. Always some stank and mist coming out of it. Same with my 12ht. It originally was vented straight back into the intake. Now it's down under the truck.

I can see the fumes after a hot Highway run in both my trucks.

You could install a catch can and then vent back into intake.

Yeah if I go that route I will be removing the head , I might try a catch can because that’s less work lol.

Looks pretty normal to me. Just sell it. OCD 100%
